Sweet Friday Night (LONG)
Sweet Friday Night (LONG)
haven't had the Z out in a few weeks. Weather has been pretty crappy around here. Lots of rain.
Last night was GORGEOUS. about 78 degrees, crystal clear skies. Had to take this opportunity to try to get in a few races on my weekend off. My car has been washed and waxed (2 coats of course) waiting for a nice night for a couple weeks. Been sitting in my garage getting impatient. Took the car cover off and fired if up let it run for a few minutes to flush out any deposits.
Take a trip up to the gas station to pick up a Mountain dew and on my way out I just happen to pull up next to an earlier GT. I'm guessing it was a 94 or 95 in real good shape on Cobra-R wheels. Had a nice lopey idle to it, sounded mean. I looked over at him and smiled. It's around 8:45, starting to get pretty dark and this guy is wearing shades. Looked over at me like I just rear-ended him. A real punkass. I might have just talked to him to find out where people are racing tonight, but I decided I'd rather crush him and send him home with his tail between his legs. Light turns green and we pull under an overpass. He gooses it to indimidate me--I admit, it sounds like it might be pretty bad. I goose it right back. It echoes like a thunderbolt under the bridge.
Stuck at another red light waiting to turn right onto the highway. He's revving like he's about to launch. I keep my cool and pick a good CD. Light turns green again and we take the turn, he guns it, pulls by, and then lets off until we're even. Still in 1st gear at around 20mph I motion him to go, he shakes his head and says "Nah, YOU take the jump, I'll make it up." So I roll my eyes and nail it and he's quickly on the hammer. He must have had gears because he pulled quickly, then shifted almost immediately. I shift a couple seconds later and we're dead even. he nails 3rd, I'm still in 2nd and start walking him. I nail third as hard as I can, rear end gets a little squirrely, and the tires bark right in his open window and I keep on pulling, hit 4th and take it up to around 120 then let off, had at least 4 cars on him, and he flies by. His license plate said "U BN HAD." Sweet plate, wish I'd thought of it. lol One of those moments I wish I had my tops ON so I could have really put some distance between us, but oh well. "A win is a win, whether it's an inch or a mile." LOL something like that. Either way, the mustang was awfully fast. Don't know if he had a stroker kit of some sort, or possibly spray? I'm guessing heads/cam and a host of other bolt-ons.
Then later on at the local cruising spot I'm rolling around, toying with a few cars here and there. Mostly just playing with them. Quick races, don't even have to shift into 3rd to realize it's over, I can already tell they're falling way back. Meet up with a buddy of mine I haven't seen in what seems like years. Green LS-1 trans am. Mostly stock, minor mods. Exhaust, gears, etc. I get stuck behind some grandma doing 20 mph in a 35 zone so I lose my buddy, but a blue WR-X blows by going after the TA. His buddy is behind him and the WR-x squares off against the TA. the WRX guy's buddy, in his civic, shouts over "I got $10 on the WR-X" I laugh and say "Well, I guess I gotta take the TA then." they hit an exit ramp and head for the highway. I follow and everyone lines up waiting for a break in traffic. They slow down to 50 mph. I'm thinking to myself, perfect. I can hit 2nd gear. Then they speed back up to 60mph. Great. too high for 2nd, but just a little too low in the 3rd gear powerband. Figures. These ricers around here ONLY race from their optimal point.
I can hear his turbo spooling, the TA gooses it next to the WRX and the subaru takes off with the TA. I have to admit, the WRX is pretty bad. Must be a big turbo. He easily walks my buddy in the TA. Now I have to stick up for li'l brother. I line up with the WRX again at 60 mph. I'm at around 3000 rpms in 3rd gear here, but 2nd gear is well into 5000, so it's pointless. The WRX nails it and I do too, he puts 1/2 a car on me but now we're in my powerband, I pass him, nail 4th and put a car on him and I see him falling way way back in the rear view. He's shut down. I slow down and he tells me they shut down--- trying to convince me they've won. I say "Was that after I blew by you?" The guy in the window laughs "let's go again!" I respond "alright, but this time I pick the speed." He leans over to discuss it with his pal and finally they agree that this is only fair. I tell them a 30 roll. I figure this is good enough for his boost, and just fine for my RPM. I try hard to make sure it's fair all around, I like GOOD races. We slow down, I'm still in 1st gear at 30mph, and I can hear his turbo whining. I honk and on 3 we nail it. My tires squeal for a bit, then grab, I nail 2nd and it's over. He's disappearing quickly. I shut down at 65. He pulls up and I say "Don't even tell me you shut down again, I could hear your blow-off valve, you were on it." He got a dumbfounded look on his face and finally gave me a thumbs up. I take the next exit and head back to my spot. The rest of the night was pretty lame. Oh well. Still had a good time.

Hey man! sounds awesome...i wish i would have been able to see them. It has been a really long day..and i've been sitting here saying the plate over and over..and i dont understand what its suppost to say..sorry, like i said..been a long day.
Yeah I have gone a good 2 weeks now with no GOOD races, only hondas and ONE mustang to play with.
Some guy in a silver C5 convertible was revving me like crazy so I reved like crazy back then put it in first, fishtailed, and chirped second and I looked back and he braked like crazy and did a U-turn and took off.
What the hell? If you Rev you Race.
At least thats what I go by.
Nice kills, like the WRX one.
Hey BTW have you ever raced people, and they are laughing at you, even though you are pulling on them real hard? Had that happen a lot since I moved to Houston. Guess they are telling themselves that they arent really racing.

I barely ever get to have fun around here, there's dark blue camaro SS convertable around here thats loud as all hell and tuned, i believe it has also been supercharged (or somethin's broken) and it flies, i mess with that one from time to time on the freeway and i always get spanked but its still fun to race, especially since its pretty much all i get.

nah, just the usual excuses after the race. LOL I don't take the Z out as much as I used to, so people are going around bragging about being "unbeaten" etc. Then they're shocked as hell to lose. That always makes my day.

Good story, & well-written. It's nice to read one from someone who's made it past 3rd-grade English...
Oh, and good kill too!!
