120 dollar fuel comp
i was readin one of the conquest sites, and i came across this link:

they say that they can run any engine. NOTE: this is NOT a turn-key computer, what you get for 120 bucks is a bunch of parts that you assemble yourself. anyone remember "heathkits"?

batch fire, not sequential. no timing setup. BUT, it does conviently get rid of the pcm's need for the opti. which leaves timing WIDE open. you don't get any sensors, except map, which is built in.

so, you guys tell me why this absolutely, positively, no-way-no-how, will not work. i might buy one just to try. for 120, if it doesn't you aren't out that much. BUT, i did see a guy on the wuest board running with it. and yahoo has a huge group for tech q's.


so, comp experts, let's hear it. i know it's cheap, adn most definetly not a haltech e6k or fast, but....

i posted this in programming, but moved here on advice from a post. thought it fit better for computer stuff, but no response, someone suggested you guys would have more input.

Looks interesting. Very early in development stages. Only two operating vehicles, if I read it right. Just looking for things you may need to address (maybe the answers are in there... I only skimmed it)...

-Batch fire only.

-On a plus side, can drive saturated or peak-and-hold injectors

-single O2 sensor. Confusing what type is used, calls for "single-wire", and references >1.5V as rich and <1.5V lean. Can't match that up with an OEM narrow band or wide band, so maybe its a Japanese pseudo wide band???

-Will not handle "stepper motor" idle air... the kind the 3rd and 4th Gen's use. Niether will my MoTeC... I still use the stock PCM for idle air control.

-No VSS input/speedo output, so you need to retain the stock PCM for that or use an alternative source.

-Remote MAP (embedded in unit) has a weak point in that it can "dampen" measurements, depending on the length of the tube that connects it to the intake manifold. They feel it provides a more accurate signal from the sensor, but I think they may have built in response delay if the tube is too long.

-Small VE table 8x8, which they see at a benefit because they feel it takes more tuning to fill in say a 16x16 table. I don't think that's sufficient justification, but it may be sufficient points, assuming the interpolation algorithm is healthy.

Definitely worth a look. It would eliminate the need for the Opti signal as you pointed out, since the fuel system is no longer low res pulse dependant. However you are giving up sequential injection. But a lot of people run an bank to bank with no problems. It still needs the equivalent of a crank signal from some source, and it suggests the tach lead from your ignition system..... which you would have to build. If you are living with batch fire, you can live a crank trigger and an E'motive lost spark
system.

If it works, it will be a real bargain. I'll have to spend some more time on the site. I wonder if this is the same "Bowling" that had the auto math website.........
