Perfect reaction time

The perfect R/T is .500, correct?
Is the NHRA perfect R/T .440? Why?

I believe the time it takes for the car to react to your throttle response is less in NHRA simply because the cars in NHRA react quicker than your street car. It takes half a second for my car to move off the line when I step on the gas, it takes an NHRA Dragster less time to jump off the line.

Sportsman tree is .500, Pro tree is .400.

Your are half right. .500 is perfect on a competition tree, and if you happen to run on a .500 pro tree it is also perfect. NHRA/IHRA and all other pro organizations either it be NMCA, NMRA, or PRO run there professional classes on a .400 pro tree. I'm not sure where you got the .440 rt from, but I've never heard of that one.

While there are pro tree, and sportsmans, the difference is how long it is between each light lighting up. A pro tree lights all the yellows and then the green, either .5 or .4 seconds apart. A sportsman lights each yellow and the green .5 seconds apart. At least I think thats how it works.

I've ran at a few tracks that use .000 as the perfect light on a sportsman tree. The lights are staggered the same as a .500 sportsman tree though.

We have a track here in The Cincinnati area that uses the .000 as a perfect reaction time and the lights are .5 apart. It is an IHRA sanction track and the run the 1/8 mile for the fast bracket and the 1/4 mile for the rest. The track after the 1/8 mile mark has small rises in the surface which make the front end seem like it is floating and they have grass inbetween the lanes. I have been there once and raced our car (brother took the day off) and I don't like the place and I would never go back, well maybe not never,:rolleyes: I would go there, only if it was the only track open in a 100 mile area.
