Messed up E-brake during shifter install...

So like I said, I was installing a shifter and to remove the center console, youre suppose to put a screwdriver in between the "pawl and cam (http://www.installuniversity.com/install_university/installu_graphics/sophomore_year/shifter_install/pawl_cam_locator.jpg) " to pull your Ebrake handle straight up and down. So I finish everything up but heres the problem ...
Since the install, the Ebrake handle pulls straight up 3 out of 4 times. I have to keep doing it until it grabs.
Does anyone know what I could have messed up?

never happened to me(i put sdrewdriver there, and worked fine

but when i installed my clutch, i re took the shifter off(to drop tranny) BUT that time, it kinda locked up... try playing with the latch and see if you can pop it loose...
