Air pressure and air intake location

I purchased my '96 Z28 about 3 weeks ago, and have been researching on what mods to do to it first http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif.

I've decided on installing an LT-4 Hot Cam as a starting point, and then adding bolt ons from there.

Upon researching the cold air intakes, I read a thread in the LT-1 tech section that got me thinking. The thread is a 'which is better' discussion between the SS ram air setup and a cold air intake. The consensus seems to be the cold air intake is better due to it being cheaper, the SS ram air box heating up, and (this is the part that got me thinking) a low pressure zone sitting on the hood at high speeds.

We all know that high pressure and cold air is best for the air intake, so my question is:

If there a way to determine a high pressure zone around our cars when at high speeds?

If so, wouldn't it be best to mount a cold air intake inside one of these zones? Maybe I'm thinking too much, and the aftermarket CAI's already have taken this into account, but does anyone know for sure?

I would think that, as stated in the other thread, a wind tunnel test would supply us with this information; but I, unfortunately, don't have a wind tunnel laying around anywhere http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif

Anyone know how we could obtain this information? It must be documented somewhere, in some computer, maybe at GM? http://web.camaross.com/bb/confused.gif

uhh how about a moroso cai intake, that should be fine. I dont believe its nessecary to get so deep into pressure zones and things, when all u will have is a Less restrictive intake

I agree that a less restrictive intake is what I want; but I also want cold air, and if possible, compressed air (ie: high pressure).

When the car gets moving at high speeds, high and low pressure zones will be formed around the outside of the car. If the Moroso CAI locates the intake in a low pressure zone, then a preformance gain could be had by moving it to a location where more compressed air (high pressure) is collecting.

I may be way off on this, but the theory is sound. Think of it like running your car at sea level, and then in the mountains. It will always run better at sea level.

Theory is interesting but how realistic is it? I say this because how many places can you realistically locate your cold air induction? See where I'm going?

Want pressure, then you need some forced induction.
