SZ50's or Eagle F1 GS-D3's???
SZ50's or Eagle F1 GS-D3's???
I'm having a hard time deciding between the two above tires. Both seem to get great reviews from people on this board which makes the decision even harder. My car is a 97 WS6 M6 with full exhaust(see sig) and will have 4.10 gears. I am looking for a tire that will get decent tread life while at the same time excellent traction and handling . Which one should I go with? I might take my car to the strip a couple of times this year but for the most part all miles will be on the street.
Please help me decide!
Thanks

I looked at both of those also. I have never driven either one. I ended up buying the GS-D3's. They are waiting to go on the ZR1 rims this spring.
I found them cheaper at www.treaddepot.com The transaction went well, and the price was quite a bit cheaper than at www.tirerack.com
The ONLY negatives I've read about the GS-D3's is that there can be some sidewall flex, resulting in slightly slower steering response. I'm not sure if this is an issue with our 275/40-17's though. All the other aspects were great though, longevity, absolute grip, wet performance, and low noise were all better than other tires.
They are both great tires, but the Firestones were just too expensive for what you get.
tread depot wanted more for shipping, but I talked them into matching the tire rack shipping price. I don't know if they would give you the discounted shipping all the way into Canada though.

i'm kinda pissed that tirerack.com stopped selling the 220 treadwear SZ50s. i think they don't make em anymore. that was a great tire.
the SZ50EP is now 340 treadwear, i got two for the rear, and they have less traction than the 220s.
my 220s only last 14,000 miles so i expect the 340s to go 20K+
haven't tried the DS-3s
