Melee Penguin 02-14-2004, 02:52 AM So I went with my friend to check up on her next Bird at the Pontiac dealership of course. Dealer comes out and isn't pushy or anything; just a simple, "Hello, how are you? Anything I can help you with?" We tell him what's going on and he tells us to take our time and wave whenever you find the car you want. What a dream; a salesman that isn't "browsing over your shoulder" with the occasional "low miles, interior, blah blah" BS. So she catches her bird and is off on a test drive. So I'm there with the salesman and he asks how my friend got into F-bodies. A salesman that actually knows about the car? So I tell him all about how I was the Chevy guy and she was my Pontiac counterpart and the speil about how we got hooked with the F-bods. He was real cool and I was like, "Dude! Got a brochure on the GTO?" and he turns and with the biggest smile said, "I've got one on the showroom floor."
So we walk in and this machine is MAGNIFICENT. Black on Black with a red face gauge. Salesman sat me in it and everything, hood was up to show the engine, but I wanted to see what it would look like with the hood down. Before I got the question for him to lower the hood he was at the front lowering it. I'm sittin there like "Wow!" So I get out to get the side view and a rear and the only thing I didn't like was the single exhaust outlet.
So we started talking about the car, and he didn't know it came from The Land Down Under. And some other things, such as the Camaro making it's return around 07. Talked about a few future upcoming vehicles and all that jazz and the guys floored at some of my knowledge. I got a job offer right then and there and am filling out the application when my girl walks in. She's like, "What car are you signing for?" Show her the app and point to the salesman talking to the owner of the dealership about me. So, I sit her in the GTO and she definitely likes it. When she upgrades to a V8 she'll get one. (Which means I get to drive a GTO :D)
Salesman guy comes to ask about the ride of the Bird and is talking to her, while walking us out to the car. Salesman guy talks a bit about how the car needs some new tires and he'll get some thrown on without marking it up. Guy drives up in a Monte SS with spinners and totally Scopes this WS6(Pewter). Salesman guy talks to him a bit when I heard something about an engine and exhaust setup and my ears perked up. Salesman stepped back and let ME talk to the customer. So I'm talking to this guy about borla and such and the salesman jerks the manager outside. "I" sold a Trans Am WS6 for this salesman and got the $200 of some of the commision the guy will be getting to prove it. So, I'll most likely be getting a side job as a salesman at a Pontiac dealership SOON. ;)
The GTO is Stupendous, It IS NOT Grand Am like in person. For those that have just seen pictures I ENCOURAGE you to see one/sit in one if you can. I wasn't able to test drive it, but if I did the cops would be looking for me for a long while cause I don't think I would have gone back. :D Sorry for the long thread, but I'm bubbly tonight.
lil_mikey69 02-14-2004, 02:59 AM Awesome.
I wish someone would just offer me a job  If you get the job, make sure it take the GTO for a test drive :D
Too bad the GTO costs a sh*t load.
Melee Penguin 02-14-2004, 03:07 AM It was an auto, so I'm pretty sure I'd be coughing up quite alot for gas cheese if I test drove it, but wouldn't it be great for a company car? :D
We're going to be dragging a friend in a few days when she has off to look at it because she CAN'T believe that it doesn't look Grand Ammy. Maybe I should bet some money cause man that car is AWESOME.
I've said it before I saw one and I'll definitely say it now, if the Camaro was NOT in the future I would get the GTO. Maybe the later one that will get the LS2, but I could give a SKITTLE about the "appearance" after seeing this bad boy.
As for it costing a "crap load" it's only around $35k. That's not bad for the interior of this car plus the engine it has. Not to mention it is a sports car. You get:
http://www.pontiac.com/gto/specs.jsp?brand=gto&pagename=models_prices&Location=HNav
As Standard Equipment(unless deleted by you the customer) on the GTO. The ONLY option is Auto or Manual.
The EXACT price on the GTO I looked at was $33,495 including the $1000 gas guzzler tax, which is only on the automatics, and the $700 destination charge.

They sticker for around $33k FULLY LOADED which isn't too bad. Especially when you consider a fully loaded GTP is right around $29k, and the SS in my sig was almost right at $30k MSRP. Of course, you can probably get a few K knocked off the GTP, but MSRP is still pretty high. I think a fully loaded Bonneville is around $32k as well. Id hardly say it cost a sh*t load.

I mean 4 seater V8 RWD car. ;) :thumb:
93midnightta 02-14-2004, 09:33 AM i think that they're cool cars but they did tone it down from the monaro to much for my tastes. for that kind of coin i'd rather save a few more pennies and get myself a new cobra ;) .
Melee Penguin 02-14-2004, 04:05 PM Have you seen one in person 93? They only thing that looked tuned down was the single exhaust outlet on true duals. It just.....didn't fit. I'm pretty sure there will be some aftermarket to fix that though and the GTO is being "restyled" in 05 I believe.
Pictures of this car do it no justice whatsoever.
blackbirdta 02-14-2004, 04:45 PM enough about the damn GTO i think the whole topic has been beat to death several times already...if you like it great...if you dont like it then dont buy one and STFU...simple as that :)
Melee Penguin 02-14-2004, 04:51 PM Ahh yes this is true blackbird, but some of the people that dislike the GTO haven't seen it in person. Yet they bash it because of it's lack of "styling"; how ignorant is that?
If you've seen the car and still dislike it then you've got room to talk, but I seriously wanna get everyone on the boards on a few buses and ship them to this car to look at it.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as they've seen the car IRL. :D
My topic was moved! Sorry for posting it in the wrong place mod. :D
Chrisz24 02-14-2004, 04:56 PM I felt the same way when I walked into the show room to see the black on black GTO, it wasnt any grand am/GP!
$33,500 is alot of money, but I'll have to see where I am in a year or so, If I can see keeping it for a long time and I dont have any issues with the car then I'll spend the money to get what I want.

I was one of those who liked what I saw in the magazines, then saw it in person and did not like the GTO.
I would take a new Cobra over that car without a doubt.
Glad you liked it though.
I think you owe that job in part to every1 here and CZ28.com!
Melee Penguin 02-14-2004, 07:23 PM Actually, the only information I really read into here is about the Next Gen Camaro. I use Z06Vette.com for everything else.
If I owed anyone thanks for information that I used talking to the salesman it's guionM for the news of the Camaro.
It would be a Z28 fanatic to feel "exploited" now wouldn't it? ;)
And you know we are/were with the Z28 name. ;)
I think we all owe some credit to this place for keeping us so up to date and informed. I can't believe some got a job because of it LOL.
Melee Penguin 02-14-2004, 11:11 PM Actually, credit should be given to the internet period. It's pretty frequent this day in age that you do some research on the internet and know more than some people that are in the business that don't look on the internet. And even then you probably know about "behind the scenes" information than the ones that do browse the net.
I don't have the job as of yet. Have to hit them up Monday to speak with the head honcho.
You crazy Z28 people. :p Maybe I should send every member on the board a dollar.
Pandamonkey 02-14-2004, 11:16 PM Fantastic!
It's not everyday that a person walks in to buy a car and is offered a job at the same time.
With any luck you'll have a long career as a seedy car saleman.:p
9T8W66 02-14-2004, 11:34 PM Local Dealer up here in Michigan has an 80 car alotment of GTO's.
Currently there are 12 on the platform all priced at under $30K
$29,595 For Manuals
$29,995 For Automatics
chpmnsws6 02-15-2004, 12:04 AM isn't that the largest pontiac dealer in the US?
9T8W66 02-15-2004, 12:22 AM I believe So, they used to have a dozen or more WS6's on the lot at one time also.
90rocz 02-15-2004, 04:02 AM Here they're going for a grand or two above MSRP...you're lucky..:D
Meccadeth 02-15-2004, 04:07 AM What a great story, good job man!
kickinthehouse 02-15-2004, 05:32 AM SO! what bird is your homegirl geting
MagnaPilot 02-15-2004, 07:12 AM I envy you all. The local AAFES dealerships can't sell the GTO because of it being built in Aus. Sucks... I really want to see one, and will be another year before I can afford to go home. Glad to hear some people like it. Perhaps I'll get a used one in a couple years when I go back stateside.
91_z28_4me 02-15-2004, 05:03 PM I got a offer at a Caddie dealership awhile back because I knew more about the XLR than the dealer rep! This is according to the sales guy. I need to go talk to the guy and see if he was for real or what. This could turn out to be very exciting!:D
Melee Penguin 02-15-2004, 06:27 PM She's getting an 01 V6 Black Bird. :) Has about 32k miles on it.
Antz97ZNJ 02-15-2004, 09:04 PM Yea im sure its a cool car...Im just not about to pay that price when i can get a equal or better performing car for less then 1/2 the price w/ a used ls1...Plus for what the gto goes for you can find a 03 cobra used w/ a few thousand miles

Heck, if you can afford that then you can buy a new GTO. :p Or even a C5...maybe.
Melee Penguin 02-16-2004, 03:31 PM Yeah that's true JED, but I'm going to wait for the 07 Camaro. ;) As for the C5 or any Corvette for that matter; I don't like roadsters. Performance is great and I don't mind driving a Corvette when I have the chance, but I wouldn't purchase one.

Bonneville SLE starts at $30,500 & the GXP at $36,000.
Fully loaded, they can push $38,000, and that's NOT the GXP either.
Makes the GTO look a bit cheap.
