OK, not really a kill story (at least from the Camaro perspective), I just it might be interesting to read what some of the WRXers are talking about us, from their point of view.http://www.wrxforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=005252

haha....some are making good points, yet others have no idea what they are talking bout and shouldnt be in the conv. because they seem to think that 97's only came in white w/ orange racing stripes, lol! And some think that its still an LS1. Oh well:lol:

I dunno, z28's with ls1's should be good for about a 13.8 @102 mph. That's not much faster than a stock wrx from s stop. On a roll, the wrx would get killed tho.

13.8 @ 102? Man, someone should shed these guys some light!

so did they ever figure out whether it was a 97 or a 98? that makes a huge difference i would say.

for the lt1...i'd say it was a good race

for an ls1...he needs to learn how to drive

And I've seen *plenty* of LS1s running 13.8 - 14.0 at 101-104 mph. Some years are hotter than others, some are automatics, etc.

I seen a WRX last weekend flew up a 4 foot snowbank. Looked good facing the sky. :metal:

Actually wasn't the race only a short distance? I would say it would be the other way around, LT1's having more torque at lower rpm's......wouldnt the LT1 do better for a short distance than the LS1's since the LS1 pulls better on top?(Stock for Stock) Maybe the driver just sucked in the race....either way those guys don't have a clue about our cars....:)

Yeah, most of those guys seem to be pretty cool. They aren't really bashing the F-body or anything. I'd be excited if I owned a WRX and beat an American Muscle car. We are the big target for those guys. It's a big goal for many of them to be able to take down a Z28. It's understandable. Of coarse, it takes quite a few mods for the WRX to hang with a stock LT1 or a LS1 from a roll.

Anyways, the Z28 driver just bought the car. It was a '97 with the LT1. From a stop, it takes a while to catch up to a WRX with a good driver since they can pull off some crazy 60' times. I believe the race.

I like how they all state that from a roll they get killed.

They actually seem to give us props way more than we tend to give imports props.

By the way, 13.8 at 102 is not that innacurate for the '98 LS1.

I didn't see any "smack talking." They probably know as much about f-bods as half the people on this site know about WRX'es... not much. They might be a little uninformed, but I have seen LS1 powered cars run 14's @ 101 with my own eyes.

Well, since it was an LT1, lets assume it runs high 13's low 14's at best, the story may be believable. If it is an LS1, it would have no chance.

I don't think I've seen a stock LS1 go less than a 13.8.

My first time EVER to a track was about 3 months after I bought my 99 Trans Am (2 months of which were spent deployed). It was my first manual car ever too. Anyway, on my third track run ever I went 13.6@104. Later that night I went 13.53@106.9 bone stock.

Those slower LS1 stock times you see are probably a conglomeration of driver, and DA factors.

Yes it does. I've compared two dyno runs between a bone stock 6-speed '96 and '98 Z28. The LT1 had more torque and horsepower than the LS1 from idle to about 3500-4000 rpm (I can't remember exactly, I can look it up at work tomarrow and get back to you). Above that rpm, it was all LS1. The difference was pretty small, though. About 10-20 ft/lbs. of torque less from idle to 3800ish.

My boss at work has a 2002 WRX and i raced him in my 97 T/A. I was stock at the time and I SPANKED his ass all over the road. Although it was from about a 65 mph start. Off the line would have been different though. After I put LTs and such on the car and asked if he wanted to go from a stop, he just laughed and said F that.

If it's stock for stock, or close to, it's going to depend on the drive.

Example: I was at Atco in summer of 02, and wasn't really clued in to the WRX. Well I lined up against one, and off we went. I did'nt see him the whole time, until the end of the track when I noticed he was hiding just off my blind spot! I went 13.4 to his 14.0. Point is, he didn't get me off the line, mostly driver caused. They're quick, but unless it's an STi, or well modded standard, you won't have too bad of a time dispatching one.

They're bad though, aren't they? :D I sat in an STi at the Philly Auto Show and I like it a lot.

I've never seen anybody run lower than 13.5's on a stock ls1 here either, but I didn't have any trouble clicking off a 13.2 even with a medicore 60'. I talked to a few of the f-bod owners there, half of them were like dumpin the clutch at 4k and just holding in it til it caught traction. It would be easy to make the assumption these guys do. I give them props for not being domestic bashers. Most of them realize their place as not being a straight line king.
What'd freak them out though is the 10 second ported heads/headers/cam setups out there.

Peace,

When I said less than a 13.8, I was meaning slower. All the stock ones I've seen had semi-decent drivers in them.

it seems to me like they have some misinformed ppl on their forum just like we do here. personally, i like the subarus. :p

however, i did get a chance to race a wrx from a 25 mph roll back in san francisco. he was modded to some extent (exhaust at the very least), but i didn't have much of a problem with him. i also went up against one in a 80 mph roll. that one was pretty ugly for the wrx.

and to our guests on from the wrx board (waves), i dig your car. but remeber, an lt1 or ls1 with a good torque converter and drag radials or, better yet, et streets ain't gonna loose much to you from a dig. my car has some fairly typical mods for an ls1 fbody. with a low 1.8 60ft my car woulda gone a good .4-.5 faster in the 1/4 mile.
