SATANAZ666 05-28-2002, 01:40 PM Finally this saturday morning I woke up and started my t-top conversion. I chopped off the roof!!!!!! Actually it was not as hard as it sounds. It took me about 8 hours . I havent painted the top around the weatherstripping but everything else is done.
I just want to thank the geekracing and the other website for the pictures and also RED BLUR who e-mailed me a coupleof times from this board. thanks. And if anyone around the Chicago area needs help and pointers on how to do this just E-MAIL me. I might even consider doing this for someone.
Kersteae 05-28-2002, 01:51 PM Great, now you can listen to all the rattles associated with them. I would kill to have a hard top. Sigh... Later.
JDHarris 05-28-2002, 03:00 PM Congrats!! I've had T-Tops on all 4 of my Camaros and I've loved every second of it! You don't have to worry too much about creeks and rattles, they aren't THAT bad, plus some subframe connectors will help that out a lot. Congrats again and lets see some pics! http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif
SATANAZ666 05-28-2002, 05:15 PM Actually theres no rattle yet. Im just curious to see what happens when it rains. Even though im sure it wont leak. I hope at least. has anyone out there that has done the conversion have any leaks?? and from where??
spoogen622 05-28-2002, 06:02 PM ID like to do the conversion, im in michigan detroit area
not too far from chi-town
how much did it cost you in parts?
SATANAZ666 05-28-2002, 06:23 PM wow parts were cheap. all from E-BAY....
T-tops .....$200..shipped
headliner....$25
brackets.....$15
weatherstriping with the middle bracket and the A pillars $60
that's it so far
trefidy 05-28-2002, 06:30 PM I am done with mine exept for a few final details. LOVE IT, also got my headliner for $99 at chevy, kick ass. Thinking about getting the roof section so I don't have to have fiberglass work at back of tops.
NOTE: anyone doing this conversion MUST cut from 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch IN FRONT of the crease in roof then cut back after seeing how far back the tops go.
SATANAZ666 05-28-2002, 06:38 PM you can uy the roof section..the back piece of the roof?????how much???
chuckys95 05-28-2002, 07:42 PM trefidy,
i just bought the rear fiberglass roof section for a t-top car from the dealer and it costs over $300.00 non-painted.
as of right now i am getting ready to put it on.
hope this helps ya ! http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

No problem!! It was worth it wasn't it? Now you need to get some pics up (you DID take pics, right?) http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif and show us your handywork. Enjoy them!!! I took mine off today right before it rained and drove three hours on my break. Just a quick spin to Oklahoma border and back in time for the evening shift!
Have you had any leaks? I FINALLY saw one drop run down the inside of my window, but I can fix it. It's SO awesome to sit in the car while its raining and just watch the water bead up on top.

ok...I have one more question for you guys who have done this..OK the winshield weatherstripping ..what is it and do i need it?? My winshield already has a black mold thin on it for the window.
I wish there was someone around here that could do that to my trans am. Congratulations on the new t-tops. It's too bad you live in chicago. I'd consider a t-top conversion if you lived close and were willing to do it.

chuckys95 05-29-2002, 04:21 PM to make it look like a finished job, yes you do need the windshield molding (of course ask the dealer for the one for the t-top car)
it has 2 extra rubber strips where the t-tops seat to it .

CasinovaThePimp 08-03-2002, 02:24 AM Could someone tell me if the t-top conversions are like the factory ones? Like do they go all the way to the doors, or do they stop a couple inches from the doors, to keep from cutting around that area?
iowacamaro019 08-03-2002, 01:39 PM when you take off the t-tops ugly rubber & metal is exposed, anyone know where you could buy a piece that would cover that up? i just wish i had something so that it would look smoother when im cruisin with the t-tops off http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif
Davio6000 08-03-2002, 01:41 PM Congrats on the conversion satanaz!
About how much would you want to do the conversion on my car? im in chicago, and have been wanting to get it done.
Wolf Warrior 08-04-2002, 12:31 PM i plan on doing the conversion in a few weeks...could somebody email me at dwilhelm@torchlake.com and tell me how to do it (in detail please...). one of my friends works for a gm dealer, so i think he can get a plasma cutter to cut off the top, i've heard of people using sawzaw's and it didn't turn out very good.
casper 420 08-04-2002, 01:00 PM Kersteae is a retard. T-tops rock. Congrats on the conversion dude.

exactly.
my old v6 no t-tops car made soooo many more noises than my current z28 with t-tops, and my current squeeks are around the rear hatch and the dashboard, not even related to the t-tops.
t-tops kick ass, best feature of my car other than the v8 under the hood. just a word of warning, t-tops off is for speeds under 95-100mph, as soon as you go above that you better have your t-tops ON or bad things can happen.

30thZ286speed 08-04-2002, 08:01 PM I don't understand whats the deal with people against T-Tops, my '97 doesn't squeak rattle or leak. T-Tops are awesome. A whole lot better than having a convertible in my opinion too.
I remember an issue of Car Craft magazine the editor wrote how his plans of buying a new 35th Anniversary SS were thrown out the window because its only available in T-tops or Convertible so instead the editor was going to go with a Bullit Mustang.
I felt like B**** Slapping him.
T-Tops are AWESOME!

2L8 U LUZ 08-05-2002, 01:55 PM Way to go man! The conversion was the best appearance mod I can EVER do to my car. I love them! As for the rattles, theyll eventually come. Get some SFC's and youll be alright! Great Job man! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
