Jet-hot Longtube header install. Anyone want to help?
Ok guys. I will be doing a header install ths spring. First of all I am from northern Minnesota just north of Duluth. What I am wondering is if any of you with experience would help out with the install. I have no idea how to install headers, but i am working with a buddy who works on cars a far amount of time but is no genious on LT1's. Would anyone want to help out putting on some jet-hot longtubes that are near where I am?
just did the jet hot install, bolting the headers on is very easy, but getting them to clear the underbody so you can use the y-pipe they send you is another story, i had to make a new trans crossmember to lower the trans 3/4", then i had to lower the drivers side engine mount by 1/4" by cutting out 1/4" from the mount bracket and welding it back together and yes i even had new mounts.
make sure you get new header bolts because the ones they send have a 7/16 head and the only thing to tighten them is an open end wrench and you cant get enough tourque on the bolts, order a set of header bolts with 3/8 or 5/16 heads

Jeez dont scare him...........its not that hard. All you had to do is get a custom y pipe made for around 150 bucks. Like he said bolting on the headers is easy once you get that done just take it over to a muffler shop and have them make you a y pipe.
i wish it would have been that easy, the drivers side header was right on the floor, no exhaust shop could have made a y pipe it would have ran right into the trans crossmember, just remember these cars were never meant to have long tube headers so some fabrication will have to be done
