ANY chance at all the Firebird/Trans Am will be along side the '07 Camaro?
ANY chance at all the Firebird/Trans Am will be along side the '07 Camaro?
Just thought I would ask this question again
I am an Fbody man at for sure, but can't see myself owning a Camaro after all these years of owning Firebird/Trans am.
Any thoughts or insight?

Haven't seen much of anything here to suggest that the Firebird will return. Most evidence points to "no".
Some people had thought that maybe the Solstice would be named Firebird. Also if you go to the Firebird page at Pontiac it says "The once and future fire in Pontiac" Or something like that. Everything I've seen suggests you don't take that literaly though.

I bet it will depend on how well the Solstice does and where they take the redesigned GTO to.
I'd say it would be very easy for GM to do a Firebird from a Camaro ala Monaro to GTO, in a very short time if they wanted to. Once a Camaro exists there will always be the chance that a Firebird will come from out of nowhere.

I have a feeling they will reunite the bash brothers again. Probably a couple years or so after the Camaro comes out they will probably introduce its buddy the Firebird/Trans Am. Especially if the Camaro does well in sales, they would have too, there would be so many potential buyers which means more money or GM.

I refuse to give up hope. It has been a dream of mine since I was like 5 and saw Smokey and the Bandit to roll a brand new black on black T/A off the lot. I feel thats a pretty reasonable dream, and I'll be damned if Im denied it
I think it depends on how the Camaro does. If the Camaro comes out and does well, why not give the people that are bitching about no firebird what they want.

what makes everyone so sure the camaro is returning?scott settlemire indicated it would but how much influence does he have?im hopeful but so far theres nothing showing me theres anything at all going on at GM proving theyre even working on a new camaro.
until theres an announcement made from GM the fbody is dead.even if theres something going on GM can kill it before its released.i dont mean to be negative but i wouldve never thought this car wouldve been discontinued to begin with and im getting discouraged.

2002 saw 42,098 Camaros produced:

Firebird sold 30,690 in 2002:

Calender year 2001 saw 35,453 Camaros & 25,743 Firebirds.
Calender year 2000 saw 42,131 Camaros & 31,013 Firebirds.

Firebirds NEVER outsold Camaros, though it did give Camaro a run for it's money in the second half of the 70s.
Truth of the matter is that Firebird is dead. Baring a change of heart from GM product planners, it's likely to stay dead for some time, if not permanently. Though I sympathize with our Firebird friends, the coupe market isn't currently enough to make a case to spend the money on a separate set of body panels & interior pieces, then spend the money twice marketing what is in reality the same exact car.
Although everyone knows that except for the 1989 Turbo TransAM, real Firebirds died when the 3rd gens came in.

Also consider that the Firebird in the end looked exactly like a 4 passenger Corvette. Probally not helpful.
