Wife smashed bumper on brand new van - advice
My wife backed into a pole (not mine
) and smashed the plastic rear bumper on her brand new (400 miles) Caravan. I assume this is going to be expensive to fix. Anybody know about how much it costs to replace? Is it better to just have a dealer fix it or should I claim it on insurance and risk it going up? I doubt I could find a silver one at a junk yard in good shape.
thanks,

400 miles????
Leave it busted. That way, every time she looks at it, she'll be reminded to look in the mirror before she backs up.
You know that if you fix it, she'll just **** it up again.
Or, you could just get a 4 x 6 at the lumberyard and bolt it on. That way, she can back into all the poles she wishes.
Wimmen drivers.... sheesh.

rent a mini van get the insurance switch bumpers and turn it back in - j/k.......that might be illegal or even insurance fruad.
A used bumper and paint is probably cheaper than your deductable. It is only a bumper swap right?
There is a Chrysler (only thing they handle) junk yard / parts specialist on 8.5 and groesbeck - sheridans I think accross from shermans or vice versa......
Or since it is soooo new call the dealer you bought it from and see if the salesman can get someone in the body shop to do it for cash or at least give you the parts at cost.....work a deal with them - what was the selling dealer?

The passenger side mirror (heated & electrified) got busted clean off, too. This is six separate instances where I had to keep from blowing my top.
I'm leaving it busted until I have some SPARE time when I'm good & ready. In the mean time, I bought the new parts myself mail-order through Dal at VanDevere Olds, saved 40 percent on parts costs, and will have the front bumper painted after I remove the facia myself. The $700 repair will cost me $475. SInce I have a $500 deductible, I save twenty-five bucks and wont have to make a claim.
You could probably do that yourself, as well. Buy the parts, remove the facia, send the FACIA off to be painted, and re-install. It only takes hand tools and will save you the cost of making an insurance claim.

Call your insurance company and tell them someone hit and run in a parking lot. No deductible should apply since nobody was in the car. Fixed for free (well if you consider a guilty conscience free
)
