Dont get the flow pac its a waste of money. just get a lid and filter instead and if you want ram air get an SSRA or FTRA. if you go with an offroad pipe dont forget you need O2 simms and your car wont pass smog either. just a few things to consider. if i were you i would do
headers, cat back instead of lowering it and doing the spoiler.
myricekiller 12-10-2003, 06:51 PM ditch the springs or flowpack and pick up LID u can get one for around 100 get a cutout to 35 put it in your i pipe best 35 dollars ur gunna spend.
Why are you just getting a mac y pipe if catalytic i hear the cats don't flow well. u might as well get headers if your already getting the y pipe open him up!
seriously tho lid a must cut out preferred ram air kit helps
check out the free mods to
I would definatly get a different spoiler.
I would get 17" rims too, and 245/45/17" tires
teke184 12-10-2003, 07:52 PM don't worry about the Ypipe. the stock one isn't that restrictive, maybe 5hp to be gained and alot louder and raspier.
and just go for the lid and ram air as stated, the Austin ram air (link in my sig) is awesome, combine that with a TSP lid and you'll have a solid 20hp gain
magnaflow is a great choice, as is the shifter and stick.
spoiler is your decision, some like it some dont...remember you'll have to paint it too.
i would look into subframe connectors.
realize that if you do springs you're gonna wanna do shocks too. and for good results use a decent set, such as bilsteins which will run you about $325 (www.bimmerparts.com)
if you want to add stability to the car in curves, yet not have to mess with alignment and lots of parts, just get the BMR 32/21mm solid sway bar kit. they will dramatically iincrease your cornering ability.
SWEAT Z 12-10-2003, 08:10 PM i'm gat the y-pipe because it haves no cats and that will make it louder
99blackSS 12-10-2003, 08:12 PM Originally posted by SWEAT Z

Aklaim 12-10-2003, 08:45 PM I say scrap your whole plan, and buy some headers, a x pipe and some dynomax bullets and get yourself some true duals.....
Here save some coin on that short stick http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33736&item=2448005288
psychocabbage 12-10-2003, 09:49 PM I say seriously think about what you want out of your car..
Wanna go fast? Get some traction and power.. But balance it out.
Wanna look sleek? Get some wheels and other flashy parts..
Wanna go ricey? Get some stickers done up... :D
But make a game plan up.. Otherwise you will just spend your $ foolishly and not be any wiser for it.. Research each and every purchase, question everything and you will be not only smarter in the end, but you will feel good about each and every $ you spent on your car.
Here is what I think about whats on your list:
magnaflow exhaust -300.00 (geting on ebay) custom exhaust is better.. other are better suited for your needs.
mac off road y-pipe-189.99 Do you want headers? There are gains from the Y but if you go with headers now or later it may use a different Y.
slp flowpack-294.99 waste.. Lid is a lid is a lid.. If you want some more air into your lid, get one of those above mentioned units.. just note that many people get a lid and are well off with it.. Do not get any aftermarket filters thinking you will get power.. K&N does not = power. I lost 3rwhp over and over on the dyno with it and other aftermarket filters..
pro 5.0 shifter-185.00 good if you have issues shifting..
lou's short stick-47.00 good if you really need it or prefer it..
mac lowering springs-179.99 if you lower your car, better figure on getting some adjustable panhard rod to recenter your cars rear.
zr28 spoiler-225.00 Personally, I hate add on body crap..
There ya go.. I wasnt too negative and tried to explain as much as possible... good luck..
Knowklew 12-11-2003, 01:11 AM Let us know what you choose....i say all performance but i guess im just addicted to speed. :D
zoomjrl 12-11-2003, 01:33 AM if you haven't heard maganflow in person/bought the exhaust don't get it. I would get Pacesetter headers from Texas Speed, and a cut out and some tips. Wait for suspension, or get the SLP LE1 Package. Get a Lid and SSRA or Austin Ram Air, Get the shifter and bar, its worth it. Don't spend all ur money, u might need some down the road for things you want to change. And def research everything. I bought exhaust after searching for months and I'm happy with my choice as it sounds bada$$, it gave me a good gain, and made my rear look 5x better, but now I can't have people in the back seat cause its too loud. Normally it isn't an issue, but recently it has been. Just some advice
Rival 12-11-2003, 01:44 AM The money on the springs, flow pack, and spoiler=700 that could be a cutout,lt's(used or new mids), and a lid. which would be around 30-40hp. do you want to have your car look cool or go fast? It is up to you where the money goes. I bought a cowl hood and having it painted cost 600. I get a lot looks but i wish i would have got a cam package. Think about it.
Antz97ZNJ 12-11-2003, 02:06 AM Think your forgeting headers
Ken S 12-11-2003, 01:32 PM the rear does shift when you lower it, but not really by much..
if you get springs without a good pair of shocks to match, you'll quickly kill your stock shocks and end up with a bouncy ride, crappy handling feel from underdampened spring occilations.
I'd definanlty recommend the shifter.. Feels soo much better than the stock shifter.. Also the skip shift eliminator is a nice thing too. I'd hold off on the short stick with the 5.0 shifter until you really decide you want a shorter shifter.. unless they changed the 5.0 design, you can cut off an inch off the top of it too.
Research the catbacks you want for sound and looks.
Y-pipe, what others have said.. plus, the stock one supposidly isn't as bad as it looks.. it is flattened, but its also wider..
SSCamaro99_3 12-11-2003, 04:57 PM Lid- I like my TSP, but any will do $100 (I know of a CF on for sale.)
SSRA - Very nice. Al is a graet guy. $200
ASP Pulley- $200
Pacesetters w Y= $500
O2 Sims=$70
Cutout= $35, or Dynomouth.
Add up install and you $1700 is mostly gone. You could save up for the cat-back you like, or find one for sale reasonably. SLP 2OTL, Magnaflow, and Hooker are all good choices. They are all under $350. Check your smog laws with relation to the headers. No cats and you WILL fail the sniffer. Duals are wonderful, I love mine, but may not be for everyone.
Lan01z 12-11-2003, 05:47 PM Save the money from the pro 5.0 shifter, and get weld-on subframe connectors and pacesetter headers with the pacesetter Y-pipe instead. $339 for the headers, $120 something for the Y-Pipe, you cant go wrong. Check out the electric cutouts from www.quicktimeperformance.com .
I'd go with the SSRA/Cutout/Qwik Stick(similar to LSS, but cheaper)/Hooker LT headers.
SWEAT Z 12-11-2003, 06:58 PM how about this
mac headers/offroad pipe-522.99
loundmouth-339.99
slp cam kit-589.99
slp lid-94.99
1547.96

Don't forget that it costs quite a bit of cash to install a cam kit if you dont do it yourself. and the headers can be a fun project also. If i were you i would take that 1600 bucs and buy as many bolt ons as possible then think about internals.
zoomjrl 12-11-2003, 11:28 PM Headers are def a project, I just got finished on my Pacesetters that I bought from TSP, and it def takes a lot of time, if u've never done it before. Dont forget the LS6 intake, their only $400 including all matierials
1KillerV6 12-11-2003, 11:30 PM Driveline
3.23, 3.42, 3.73, or 4.10 gears $200
Induction
Lid $100 -145
Port n’ Polish MAF $Free
Port n’ Polish TB $Free
EGR mod (98-00) $Free
LS6 Intake (98-00 $455
TB Bypass kit $15
Exhaust
MAC Long Tube Headers W/Y pipe $?
Hooker Cat-back system(IMO, sounds the best :metal: ) $230
Aklaim 12-12-2003, 02:08 AM MAC doesnt make long tube headers for the LS1. MAC's are midlength.
LSs1Power 12-12-2003, 06:08 AM Dont get the Lou stick. If ur getting the Pro 5.0 just cut it and shorten it a little bit. I did it to my Pro 5.0 and its working great and by doing so u will save around 60 bucks.
Also if u want to run Macs with off road Y pipe i think the best catback for u will be Hooker and install a cutout at the I-pipe. The hooker doesnt have any rasp sound or resonance like the magnaflow of the LM and its really good if ur running Off road Y pipes.
Good luck.

I got mine for 289.
WhoBetter? 12-12-2003, 09:26 PM I think you should show your parents you have some common sense and don't blow all your money on your car, of course you have to question how much common sense they have buying you a car like that to begin with.
CobraKilla 12-14-2003, 12:58 AM Buy a 12-bolt or 9" w/3:73's or 4:11's then learn to drive your car really well you should be well off...
Or just get a wet or direct port nitrous kit.
Knowklew 12-14-2003, 01:01 AM I second the nitrous kit... For around 750 bucks, i could be way off but you can have a kit with all the goodies.. and lots of fun and have money left over
Aklaim 12-14-2003, 01:57 AM Originally posted by CobraKilla

You wont find a 12 bolt or 9" for 1600 or less. Even used, thats still too low.

I got my Currie 9inch for $1200 and thats nodular case, wormgear posi, larger wheel studs, upgraded yoke, etc. It was used of course but still...
Gloveperson 12-14-2003, 11:21 AM I would do:
Hooker Cat-back
Lid, whatever kind with a paper filter
4.10's
Pro 5.0 shifter
SFCs
Free Mods
and save the rest. We all know how stupidly expensive it is to repair these cars and their relability is also not the best...
just some food for thought.
FiefSS 12-15-2003, 03:19 AM I'd just save your $$$ for a while... your hella lucky to be handed that sweet of a car.
mrsneakyz28 12-19-2003, 03:10 AM I'd go with a cutout and dynomax muffler much cheaper and sounds good, or if you want a cat-back go with magnaflow it's really up to you what u like, but I searched for months and decided to go woth magnaflow and I love it. Don't forget about longtubes, slp lid I got mine for 80 bucks, ssra, shifter is good, and maybe some suspension, or you could skip the longtubes and go with cam but expensive to install. That should give about 75 horses but it's up to you what u want to do.
chpmnsws6 12-19-2003, 02:30 PM i'm suprised no-one's said to save the money for your first wreck like they did me (i'm in 11th this year).
pacesetter headers-420
O2 simms- 50 shipped used
rear end girdle (your GONNA pop your rear end without it)
pro 5.0 shifter (trust me, i've had em all..... LSS, Ripper, Hurst, and this one i've found to be the best with the least amount of missed shifts)- 164.99 shipped
cutout-35 shipped (summit)
lid-100
SSRA-120
thats 725 bux right there
OOOOOOOOO! clutch- i'm working on trying to find a good clutch but so far the spec stage 4 is the one i'll be getting- 399
save the rest and keep on saving because your now gonna be laying down about 350+ and the wheels (i dynoed 2 nights ago in my 2000 ws6 and got 352/354 at the rear wheels with the mods i just told you about)
foff667 12-19-2003, 10:47 PM i say coated pacesetters & ypipe, cutout, cam, lid and gears...if you do most of the work yourself it will come out to around 1700 give or take a few bucks and would legitimatly put you at around the 380rwhp mark.

I disagree. Let him have fun with his new toy. At least he's researching and doing his homework before he blows his wad of cash. Sure he should start an RRSP early but since the car was bought for him let him add the finishing touches. Any kid would die for parents like his. :)
zoomjrl 12-21-2003, 03:07 PM i am having fitting issues with my drivers side header. I am currently trying to get the issue resolved.
6LITEREATER 12-22-2003, 12:09 AM FYI- You can get the same spoiler from JCWhitney for $129. I had it on my 94 and loved it. Three other friends have them. To me that spoiler and the 98+ SS spoiler are the best ones ever made for the cars.
I would get an air lid, do all the free mods, get some headers and a cutout then go for an LS6 intake and a Cam.
You can also get a N20 Kit put together for $300 if you go dry and around a 100 shot.

I second that! I also recommend getting some sub frame connectors in there. I had no idea how much difference they would make until I got mine. Day and night difference. Good luck on your car, and congrats!
P.S. If at all possible, save as much as you can for the unexpected problems that will come up.
