Anyone good with engine work need a beater? Or cash?

Heres the deal...

My cavalier blew a head gasket a while back, and i cant get rid of it because i owe money on it. (I know, ****ty...)

I got a 93 Toyota Corolla for free (for all intents and purposes) so im driving that while the Cavalier sits in a parking lot rotting away. Thing is, i have to keep insurance on the cavalier, cuz of the lien, which blows.

Anyone wanna come fix my cavaliers head gasket and take the Toyota home? I can get a new cyl. head off ebay... I dont *think* theres any lower end damage to the engine, itll start as it sits right now, but it blows exhaust out the coolant overflow tank.

Its a 1997 Cavalier, 2.2L 5 speed, no AC accessories on the engine (i think that should make it easier, lol).

Id be willing to give up the Corolla if someone could get the cavalier running... ITs a 1993 Toyota Corolla, 1.8L Auto with OD. Has some minor surface rust, but NO rotting. Its white, the paint could use some buffing, i started it by hand and its reviving the paint nicely. Its got 148k on it, and no mechanical problems, besides it burns a little bit of oil, and the AC doesnt work. I drove it 300 miles this weekend, didnt skip a beat.

Id be willing to part with the Toyota, or pay cash, allthough im fairly poor. Im in Buffalo NY, 14226.

If anyone feels like a trip to Buffalo to make a few bucks, or score a beater, shoot me an email at admrlam@adelphia.net

Thanks.

Question

I'm wondering if the vehicle got hot or not? I say that because if it did the head may be warped & in need of some plaining (.030-,060). Also with those miles a timing belt should also be put on, IMO Fred

Yeah, it overheated pretty badly when the gasket went... Its an aluminum cylinder head too, so i just assumed replace it. But i can get one new fairly cheap...

Yeah, replacing it would probably be more cost effective than having the old head milled. Better insurance against failure too.

I'd take ya up on the offer if Buffalo wasn't a 4+ hour drive from me. Here's a TTT for ya.

Actually no I go to Daemen right down Main Street. I would be up to it, I acutally have a couple friends that live in campus manor. I wont be home until Saturday though.

Do you have all the parts for the swap?

I dont have them yet... Im in the middle of finals week in Architecture. My final review is in 24 hours, LOL! I need a new cylinder head, and a new head gasket, and im not sure what else i need...

Ive never dived in to a large project before, with my cars. My thirdgen has a lot of external mods (exhaust, chip, etc) cuz im still learning about engines and whatnot.

If its something you want to do though, i just need a list of what i need, and ill start gathering the stuff immediately.

I should be able to have it all in a week or less...

You go to Daemen? Wow, i wonder if ive seen your car around, lol...
