huttler 10-25-2003, 01:44 AM After I sold my 97SS I bought a 99 C5. The C5 is stock except for a Halltech intake. My budies 00 SS is completely stock, even the tires. We raced 7 times, 2 from a stop and 5 from a roll (10, 25, 40, 45, 50). We were dead even from all speeds to 120.

zoomjrl 10-25-2003, 02:55 AM were they both auto or stick?
driver has alot to do with it
kickinthehouse 10-25-2003, 06:01 AM 99 C5
isnt that a Vette ?
ULTIMTEORANGESS 10-25-2003, 09:43 AM what trans and gears are in these cars?i know m6 SS are 3.42s and a4s are 3.23s.if youre an auto with 2.73s and hes an m6 thatll make difference even with your intake mod.im still surprised you didnt start pulling away over 100.weird how you were even every race.i never heard of that happening.
Z28CamaroGuy 10-25-2003, 10:42 AM Damn, I didn't know SS's were that fast. Yes a C5 is a Corvette.
CODY BEHNKE 10-25-2003, 10:56 AM The only corvette in town I have lost to is a 2001 ZO6, otherwise C5's are pretty easy to kill. I usually jump them off the line pretty good. And even at a 25mph roll it gets ugly in about 5 seconds.
Omega9 10-25-2003, 11:44 AM Sorry, but I've gotta call :bs:
j/k :p Awesome runs! :metal:

Yes C5's are not that much fast .... :p
SilvercamZ28 10-25-2003, 12:07 PM I got waxed about 2 weeks ago when my 02'ss WAS stock by my buddies 03' C5 (modded with a Borla Exhaust).. both of us have the T-56 and such... we left the line at the same time but he alway's pulls on me around the 85 to 90mph range...
whoa guy 10-25-2003, 12:47 PM corvettes have independent rear suspension
fbodys have solid axle....better for drag racing.
ULTIMTEORANGESS 10-25-2003, 01:15 PM C5s are lighter which is better for drag racing.:D
huttler 10-25-2003, 06:46 PM Sorry not to mention that before, both cars are M6.
Slappy3243 10-25-2003, 07:22 PM Most people do not believe me when I say my car will give a C5 a good run for its money. It basically comes down to the driver, which I will admit, I am not that great at driving stick yet. Yes, I know a vette is a much better made car but straight line wise, it has its work cut out for it against an LS1 F-body.
Capn Pete 10-26-2003, 01:38 AM I don't care what anyone says, you can't take two cars with the SAME f'n engine, line them up, and expect one to kick the other's a$$?! While the C5 may have a ~200 lb weight advantage, it has the independent rear suspension, which is not as good for drag racing as a solid axle (as was already mentioned). I think Corvette owners are probably more in denial of this fact? They just don't want to accept that their car is no faster than a car half the price!:p I am by no means knocking 'Vettes, as I would like to own one of them one day;), but I still have to give LS1 F-bodies the credit they deserve.
IMO, on the highway is the only place that a 'Vette would show a bigger advantage over an F-body when the weight and aerodynamics would become more relevant. I guess they would also out-perform F-bodies in auto-X too?!;)
whoa guy 10-26-2003, 01:52 AM corvette owners think they have the greatest car ever made. most of em are dumb and are nit picky and demanding..... "oh god...theres a tiny chip in my paint.....gotta get it all totally repainted now." "you didnt fix the break pulsation" tech: "its normal" "oh no its not....i know everything about a c5 cuz im a corvette owner and part of a corvette club."
Ken S 10-26-2003, 01:53 AM Well, its proven that the IRS in the Vette seems to rob a bit more HP than our solid rear axles... But then again its also 200 lbs or more lighter..
Actually, I've heard Vettes IRS are pretty good for drag racing too.. Its good a good design that doesn't have camber toe problems under load thru suspension travel.. Hence the tires stay nice and flat on launch..
Also, I think the stock vette rears are stronger than our stock 10 bolts...
Anyways, when it comes to straight lines, the C5 does have to watch out for the F-bod. Now if what they say about the new C6 having 400 hp stock........

:D
ULTIMTEORANGESS 10-26-2003, 06:28 AM with both being the same trans a c5 will be faster.besides it being ALOT lighter it has a lesser restrictive exhaust.in a street race with both cars being stock it can come down to whoever gets the jump first.
ask how many
ULTIMTEORANGESS 10-26-2003, 06:30 AM C5 owners have broke their rears.:o WTF didnt mean to send that msg. yet.
CODY BEHNKE 10-26-2003, 10:20 AM With my cars SLP options and my own additions I am not even close to impressed with my buddies C5.
And don't forget the C5 doesn't use a T-56 it uses a trans-axle mounted over the rear wheels thus the reason a C5 IRS is better than others.

Wasn't a white SS and had a SLP sticker in the back window by chance? I remember one down there back in 98 or 99.

I didn't expect much more from my Vette when I bought it but, I though it might be slightly more reliable than my '97 SS which had a cronic opti-spark problem (went bad 7x because dealer wasn't putting on the vacuum line), but corvettes are just as much of a piece of crap like everything else GM makes, there is nothing like getting in your car and having a steering column that won't unlock (pull key, wait 10 seconds" kiss my @$$!!) or the greatly anticpated "reduced engine power" mode. Nothing like driving a V8 running on 4 cylinders w/40 hp :usa: . Capn Pete keep your F-body, I wish I had kept mine. Last week I saw 3 guys pushing an '03 Escalade though an intersection to a gas station, funny thing they didn't push it to a pump  . I refuse to buy an import though, and mustangs just aren't that appealing to me.
MistaCamawo 10-27-2003, 07:38 PM It definitely is sad that GM's quality is pretty unimpressive. Sometimes I see something on my car that just makes me bow my head down and put my hand on my forehead at how cheap it is. Try putting in clear corners, why would gm make blinkers so $#%&ing hard to get out? One side was fine, the other I wanted to beat the car with a baseball bat. At least it hauls ass...
