front wheels hitting inner guards

Hi all,

Have just bought a 1984 L69 Z28.

It has the factory 15" five spoke alloy wheels and 225 rubber at the front and it is hitting the inside guards when the wheels are turned on a moderately tight lock.

I have had a look and the front suspension seems stock.

Can anyone tell me why the wheels are hitting?

It is really annoying as it makes slow speed manouvering almost impossible as I can't turn the steering wheel full lock.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Daz

I would guess that the inner fender plastic is either not positioned correctly, or it has warped slightly.

Or it's always possible that the car was smacked hard and fixed wrong, but I'd check the inner fenders first. :)

Tirerack lists 3 sizes for you 205/75-14, 215/65-15, 235/60-15. Which size do you have? Also, another thing is that your front springs could be sagging and as such it could cause rubbing. That or the last owner cut them to lower the car.

i had the same problem with 235/60s on my car (88 bird 305). It was because the "christmas tree" plastic mounting clips can come loose and sag over age. I also noticed that my struts were really bad and replacing these seemed to help.

I've got a 92 1-LE with the factory suspension and it always rubbed from day one. It's pretty tight in there. If nothing is sagging or the inner fender isn't pulling away, it may be normal.
