Stock engine (few bolt ons) Plus 150 shot = bad?
ok my buddy ran a 100 shot on his 95 formula with no probs (he had my jets and his car got repoed) Now all I have is 75 and 150 jets.
I will be replacing my plugs and wires tommarow and I plan on running a 150 shot at the track (I am at high 4400 ft. and I hear larger shots are safer cause the normal air is so thin)
Anyway he was running normal timming and didn't have any issues. I was planning on doing the same with a 150 shot and 2 heat range colder plugs at .038 (maybe .035).
Do any of you see this as a problem?

I'd throw in some race gas just to be safe with stock timing.

if your not gonna pull timing and you have no cats throw some 110 in. if you got cats find the highest octane unleaded you can. otherwise you should be fine with the 150hit

update: I have no cats. And have autolite 103's.
Are cats the only reason you don't want to run ledded? isn't there anything else in the fuel system that could get fubar from running it? like the filter or something?

Heya Zizux
You want to be careful with leaded for one more reason as well - O2 sensors. It can mess them up by plugging them up a little bit.....
There should be some un-leaded high octane in SLC - I know RMR has it.
As far as the shot goes - I dont see a problem with 150 shot - assuming you have the fuel pump to push it. (my fuel pump will NOT handle 150...)
Get a fuel pump, retard the timing, and I would bet you will see no problems running 150 on pump gas.
I run pump gas, 100 shot, and 37 degrees of total advance - and ZERO knock....

Hey zizux,
The reason Jeff can't handle the 150 is he has cubic inch issues
Think of the total picture of power output. You should be able to handle up to a 200hp shot. We are not making as much power up here due to elevation. I have run some numbers that suggest a 75 shot just gets us even with a NA sealevel hp out put. (Does that make sense?) In other words with the same timing changes, plug heat range, etc you should be able to run 75 more than the guys at sea level.

Sure
Try the 200 shot... your pump will not keep up
You have to think of the amount of fuel that NX fuel jet can flow. When the fuel selenoid is opened up it really makes the fuel pump work.
If you try the 150 shot - be sure to have a fuel pressure safety switch. But my prediction is for a 150 shot - even at this elevation - you will NOT have enough fuel from a stock fuel pump.
Take it for what its worth

You mean the extra 2-3tblspoons of fuel used during an 11sec run?
Have you ever opened up your fuel selenoid and watched the flow with the 100 fuel jet in??
Go ahead and run that 200 shot on your stock fuel pump if you think you can take it "Luna". Its your pistons.
