oil pan 4 03-26-2002, 11:26 PM A fat cam and new valve springs would help a lot.

acutally i would think you'd win with the mods you have
look around for maybe a set of pullies and maybe a posi rear...

muckz 03-27-2002, 12:09 PM This is 98 Mustang? It has 150HP engine... They accelerate to 60mph somewhere in the 9 second range, whereas fbody will do around 8 - 8.5
This isn't the new 99 V6 engine that has 190 HP, in which case you'd be spanked big time.
You should win, hands down.
oil pan 4 03-27-2002, 12:32 PM A friend in VA has a 00' nearly base line stag, it has high rear gears(high 2.??) and an open diff and an auto trans.
He can't burn the tires they just spin some or do doughnuts they look like a big circle.
you can get power to the ground better than him but he probly will win if you don't do some real mods.
ImportKILLER 03-27-2002, 03:38 PM The 1998 3.8s Mustangs had 150 HP. You have 160, plus if you add the mods, you can take him. Anything can happen, but you should be able to.
If it was a newer 3.8 Mustang, however, they'd smear you all over the street. Remember to remove all excess weight...it makes a difference.

rollin in a camaro 03-27-2002, 10:46 PM we both have auto's and no for the turbo, i dont have that kind of money, but i think i may get some underdrive pullies and then its a win for sure? i mean we both have only have our license for like a month, so both of us are not skilled at racing.
OnixV6 03-27-2002, 11:05 PM there is no sure thing. he could be modding his Stang while you mod yours. but his AODE tranny could be an equalizer to your much heavier convertible.
practice your launch. get the UD pullies, LSD and aluminum DS. practice your launch. get some tranny mods. (sorry, don't know auto mods) oh, did i say practice your launch?
rollin in a camaro 03-28-2002, 12:14 AM i know for sure that this guy aint moddin, cuz he wants to put a cobra engine in his car, and that wont be till the end of high school. so i think i got this in the bag.

If you'll be getting LSD, I doubt it really matters...
On the more serious note, getting a torque converter for your auto will aid you quite a bit.
Later,

Rookies...just don't take out any innocent people out when you guys race, okay? http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif
One of these weekends I'll have to get me and my crew down to Campbell and show these high schoolers to concentrate more on their studies than their cars. http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif
Don't build up your car just for this one race...if you have enough to beat him, good...if not, who cares. Trust me, you're going to get beat plenty of times so don't worry about what you need to do to beat him.

97 Camaro RS 03-28-2002, 11:24 PM Just out of curiosity. Would a stock 3.8 camaro be able to take on a stock 3.8 99 or newer mustang? I know the ford 3.8 is a ****ty engine and ford's trannies stink. I have a frend with a 96 3.8 mustang who talked $hit to me and I handed him his a$$ with my 97 3.8 RS. hehe

Stock for stock, the 3.8 Camaro and the 99+ 3.8 Stang are pretty evenly matched. You have a little more power, he has a little less weight.
UNLESS the Mustang has an automatic. Even the Ford boys themselves admit that their automatics suck monkey balls, and are nearly a full second slower than manual cars. With an F-Body, the difference is negligable.

Thats crap my friend had a 98 3.8 liter Mustang and he said he only had 130hp. It didnt seem very fast at all. We never raced but he drove my car and he thought mine was faster. With the mods "rollin" is going to put in his car he should take him. The only thing the mustang has going for it is that it is newer.

I'm on the fence? I know I'd whip em.Ive takin the 4.6L(all stock) before.
I think the base is a little higher than 130 on the 98 3.8 ford.
Super six Motorsports can get the Ford 3.8 up to 340rwhp stage 4!!
The F*ed up thing is they offer stage 2 for GM 200+rwhp w/ custom computer. For now that is.I'm doing this soon as I have valves heads problems. They say w/ wet nitrous added they can get around they're ford numbers.
Just race him,geeze

MustangEater82 09-11-2002, 01:04 AM As for the quickest pre 99 stang I ever saw ran 16.4s, it was a 5-speed had intake exhasut and gears, I used to slightly edge him out or be even when I had intake jsut a muffler, and plugs and wires.
I think you will take him, but I am not sure how convert 3.4Ls perform. Get his ass off the line and you will hold out hte entire race.
as for new v6s, all the AODEs I have seen were runing mid 16s with all the basic mods, not as similar to the f-body as you would think.

As for a stock pre 99 3.8L I am 95% sure they are 145 hp.
Mustangeater,I only have heard of one guys prob. w/ a leaking valve seal.
I'd be very interested in hearing some of the probs.
You gotta admit 200 to the rear sounds good, add the nickle & dime hp mods (already intalled)gets a little higher.A build up on the block, balanced, some headers and a ATI intercooled (LS1)super charger.Ohh Yeah!
Thats my plan
I just realized this post is march 27.Rollin in camaro what did happen?Win or Lose?
