1st and goal 09-15-2003, 01:02 PM As you guys know I recently bought a 98 Z/28 LS-1 A4.
Well, I promptly changed the oil and headed off to NED for a few trips down the track.
I made three passes.
13.865 @ 99.94
13.846 @ 100.33
13.836 @ 99.92
I went home and changed the plugs, fuel filter, PCV valve and did the free ram air mod by taking my sawzall to the radiator cover to let more air to the air filter and headed back last Wednesday to make some runs.
I was physched after the first pass as I ripped off a nice run
The only HPPIII mods were to have the cooling fans on early and to firm up the shift firmness and reduce the 2-3 shift by 200 rpm
13.282 @ 102.68 - ½ second and ~3 mph = not too bad for a $25 dollar investment
The other runs were kinda inconsistent
13.4 @ 102
13.68 @ 101.03
13.8 @ 100.91 (****ty launch, lots of wheelhop).
So the next thing I did was to plug the Hypertech PPIII programer back in and the only thing I changed from Wednesday was to install the "enging power tuning". Everything else was the same and the track conditions were pretty similar as I really wanted an apples to apples comparison and I was totally shocked by the results. 94 Sunoco on both nights.
13.372 @ 105.16 mph :D a 2½ mph improvement
The rest of the night the car was consistent as hell !!
13.354 @ 103.55
13.397 @ 103.44
13.370 @ 103.49
13.324 @ 103.47
13.391 @ 103.31
And my reaction times were pretty good too, hell I might give Uncle Ted a run for his money with the night I had
r/t's were:
.599
.549
.533
.526
.565 and a .440 red light on my last pass:rolleyes:
I never thought the HPPIII would do anything as I had one on my 94 before I modded the hell out of it and I lost a tenth and a mph at the track but it consistently picked up 2 mph so it looks like the programming will stay.
Next up for the LS-1 is some autocrossing with TTA89 ;)

bpm2k 09-15-2003, 07:57 PM And so it begins.......again. :D
"$100 for the first person to catch me modding "the LS-1" other than the stuff above!!"
Who's going to be the lucky sucker to collect?
1st and goal 09-15-2003, 09:46 PM Oh No Mr. Bill ;)
Didn't you see the disclaimer at the bottom of the message  aka: doesn't count when the aforementioned mod came with the purchase of the car:D
Marc
bpm2k 09-15-2003, 09:47 PM I saw it....but after Mike's little jab....it's only a matter of time until the next mod. :D
TTA89 09-15-2003, 10:44 PM Marc,
I have a 5177 (Think thats it) Dry NOS kit sitting here that I really want to get rid of.
I'll make ya a killer deal :D

Bill,
Will you accept $100 in McDonalds gift certificates :p
Mike,
I'll take the NOS kit :D
Marc
bpm2k 09-16-2003, 04:44 PM :D Nitrous is good. It was my favorite mod on my Z before the Vortech. Simple...go fast....me like.
TTA89 - if he doesn't want the NOS kit at a killer price, throw it towards a Maine boy looking for some juice!!
<<<<<< ME!!
1st and goal 09-17-2003, 01:48 PM Cole,
It's yours as I was only kidding.
I wouldn't put a blower or nitrous kit on the LS-1 if someone gave it to me for free.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like them but it's just that I already have one race car and all I want out of the LS-1 is to have a fun daily driver that you only put gas in and drive....no need to watch gauges, don't worry about it overheating, don't worry about it period....... just drive it and enjoy ;)

Ouch that hurts :metal:
Sunday.... Come on down. :D
Congrats on the ride and the RT's.... There is a little guy in first place called "Freddie" I want you to meet in round number one.
1st and goal 09-18-2003, 08:23 AM Thanks Ted,
I'll keep it in mind.
What's it $25 to race on Sundays?
Was supposed to drink some beers and watch football.
Marc
It isn't cheap, but that is because you can win money. :D
I think it is $35.00 if you are not a points member, $30.00 if you are. If there are 32 cars in Street, the winner gets $175.00. Runner up, and semi finalists get paid too.
I run both Mod and Street so it does get expensive, but third round in Mod pays back $27.50 as long as there are 100 cars.
Time trials start at 9:00am and eliminations usually start between 12:00 and 1:00.
I want lots of people to show up so we have a high car count as it is the only way I can possibly go enough rounds to catch the guy in first place.
