It's not a camaro or firebird but should be the same as firebird. I am working on my father inlaws 78 Pontiac Catalina and need to get the ignition switch out. I currently have the steering wheel off and the column dropped. Does anyone know how I get the ignition switch out? How do I get out the metal plate that grabs the steering lock? Any help would be great, Thanks in advance.

From what I've heard, (never removed one) there should be a small hole, in the column, near where you insert the key. You are supposed to be able to remove the assembly after you insert a paper clip end (or other small object)in the hole to release it. No need to remove the wheel.

That's how FORD'S work. I finished messing with it today and it's worse than when I started so know I have to change the column.

the switch is a PITA, gotta remove the lock plate and the turn signal switch to get to the screw that holds it in.
