Thumbs up Post your Experience with Different Clutch Brands?

I'm in a need of new clutch soon and I have heard all sorts of complaints and complements on the sames clutch such as Spec, Centerforce, etc.

Post for me your experience with the clutch brand you went with and how is it working out with yours? Good quality? bad quality? just a bad clutch?

I know there is a huge difference in price of different clutches out there but i'm aiming at the experience & quality rather than going for the gourment brand to get braggin rights

Thanks

I'd like to know the answer to this too. I know centerforce sucks and my star really sucks. I guess I just need to build up a motor so I'll need the mc cloud.

I really like my Mcleod single-disk clutch (I wanted to keep something streetable). There was very little chatter when I was breaking it in but now there's none and the engagement is smooth. It grabs like crazy-I can light 'em all the way to 4th. I would recommend it.

Does the McLeod Clutch Single Disk need to go with McLeod Adjustable Master Cylinder? or will my 01 Z28 Master Cylinder worth with it? Cost is a factor. Because if someone can validate a McLeod Clutch that can last 2 or 3 time of that of SPEC / Centerforce / RAM then it's worth the investment.

Also I heard of the springs on the SPEC clutch plates poping out? what is the deal with that?

Thanks

Tom

I'm can't say for sure, but I don't know why you couldn't use the stock master with it. I changed mine because I have a '98 and it's recommended that you update the slave and master with certain year models (I believe up to 2K)

No problems here with my Spec stage 2. Holds good even after smoking it a couple times at the track. About 15k miles so far, no problems whatsoever. Im impressed.

Physically what is the difference between SPEC stage 2 and 3 clutchs? Clutch Plate? or Pressure Plate? or both? anyone has pictures?

1 more vote for the Mcleod SINGLE kevlar/organic disc.

great clutch and Ive been RUFF with it. You can use your stock Master set up and do the drill mod to the slave/throwout bearing for quicker engagement and all will be well !

Spec uses very tiny springs in their clutches, at least in their 6-puck Stage 3. Went through 1 from Sept to Jan (caused by bad pilot bearing and tranny) rebuilt everything with pilot bushing instead of bearing so less play, then in July went through another one, both times blowing the springs. Had the transmission checked for excessive play or runout, was still within specs, did some research, made some calls, turns out, Spec uses the SAME spring center hubs from their 4-cyl clutches as on their LT1 clutches. Didn't believe local clutch shop till he showed me them side by side. Made in China part also. No more Spec for me, going to get something that holds up next time. This was on a basically stock daily driven car with only intake and catback mods and NO track time or racing.

The McCleod is a great clutch. Only problem is that it's expensive.
