what headers should I run on a lowered lt1 car?

I already asked this in the lt1 forum and everyone says go with lt's they don't scrape that much, but most of them are stock height. I want to lower my car for better handling, but it is not going to be a dedicated road racer. It will also see some 1/4 mile action. I had bbk shorty's on my last car and was dissapointed that I could not feel a difference. I really want lt's for the power, but I don't want to scrape on everything in the road. This is first and foremost my daily driver. What do you guys with lowered cars run on lt1's. And I'm not talking stupid low, just 1-1 1/2 inches lower than stock.

I'm waiting on this answer too. It's one of the few things that I can do in my class! I was planning on using the Jet Hot headers, they're suppose to have their own y pipe this summer too.

FLP is the brand most recommended for lowered cars. I'm installing mine right now. They do tuck up in pretty tight. . Mike

Get Hooker LTs, or DynaTechs. Just not that the DynaTech's will not fit if you are running the Canton RR pan.

Mine is pretty low to the ground as it sits right now, sure you can't go jumping curbs with it but it tucks up nicely.

And do yourself a favor, get a custom Y pipe made at a good shop, having something fitted to your car is going to fit and work much better than having just some off the shelf piece made. I already went thru that headache with the Mufflex Y pipe.

I have a couple pics in the sig....I'll try to get some better ones in the next couple weeks. (those are the Hooker LTs)

i don't see any 94s on your link

I've seen pics of 4th gens w/ eibach prokit and Hooker LTs, and it looks like 2" of clearance

my hooker shorties hit speed bumps at anything over a crawl

if i had to do it again, i'd get LTs and coilovers to adj the height, but it would be less than 1"

I have TPIS LTs on my car and they work very nice. The best clearance of any i've installed.

After close inspection of my car, which is lowered to 26.0" floor to fender lip peak on the front and 26.25" floor to fender lip peak on the rear on my 1994 Z28M6, there is no way that the car would be driveable (at all) on the street with long tube headers and round exhaust pipes.

Now if the LT header manufacturers used oval shaped exhaust tubing (like the LS1s), then maybe you could get the pipes to the back of the car with adequate ground clearance.

I use JBA Jet Hot coated mid-length headers, which are better than most short headers, but lacking from the long tube styles.

From everything I've read, AS&M mid-lengths flow almost as well as LTs, and have excellent quality.... if you can get around the price.

I'm lowered about 1.25" too and there are too many speed bumps where I live for LTs to be practical.....wish I didnt like the way the car handles and looks so much, LTs would be nice

I currently have JBA shorties on my car, & Eibach pro-kit springs, no clearance problem at all. The JBA's came with their own y-pipe, the mechanic said that he had little trouble installing them.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought either the AS&M's or the SLP's, both have 1 3/4 inch tubes, the JBA's have 1 5/8 inch tubes, so when I get my 383, I'll have to change the headers anyway, 1 3/4 is less restrictive.

I got a good deal on the JBA's, 600.00, and paying the extra $150 for the AS&M's would have been worth it for me.

SLP short tubes with Sportlines here. As stated above do the shocks at the same time or wait. In my case I did the bilsteins with a 32mm front roll bar. The cat hits before anything around the headers.

The headers seem to flow ok but If I had it to do over again I would have looked in a diffrent direction. The center head flanges on both sides were out of plane by .125"+ and the y pipe missed by .625 - .750". Very poor QC on things that should be easly caught and corrrected. I bought SLP based on the the best chance of performance and good fitment. I guessed wrong. msw

Thanks for the info Freebird, apparently my JBA's went in without a hitch, everything fit hunky-dory, and you're right, my cat used to hit before anything, now it's the v-braces attached to my LGM SFC's.

MrBigXL, maybe you need to look a little harder.

Trust me, there are pics of my '94 in there. There will be more coming very soon.

And yes Hooker LTs, a 3" Y pipe with a DrGas Merge Y, and a 4" mufflex clears with the tires pretty much right at the fenders. Just watch not to drive over major speed bumps and your fine.

I have TPIS LT headers and they tuck up VERY nicely, the clearancing the header for the steering linkage sucked a big one though

well I don't know how fast just yet. Hopefully it will be on the dyno soon. I'm planning on doing some data logging runs with it this weekend. I'd like to have it on a road course before winter hits but I don't know if it will make it this season or not.
