clunk in back when lettin out clutch upshifting in new car
This happens about half the time I upshift, especially if I shift slowly. The car only has 230 miles. There is no noise the first couple minutes of driving but after that it happens. I thought maybe it's just the rear brakes. Since the car is new I drive it like a grandpa.

I know it's not the brakes, it's from driving like a grandpa, if you shift it above 1500 it won't do it. It happens because your moving too slow for the gear your selecting. Your not going to hurt it though. I have a 2001 TA which i bought with 7000 miles and i experienced the same thing, but now i have 11,000 miles and it's not an issue, it rarely does it. I shift at around 1600-2000 regulary and it's very smooth.
I usually shift at around 2000-2500. If I get on the gas right as I let the clutch up almost not lifting completely off the gas upshifting there is no noise. The slower shift the more is does this no matter what rpm I'm at. My 89 mustang 5.0 does the same thing at times. I heard from others that the 98-2000 models had clunking rearends but not the 2001-2002. Maybe it's just part of the car breaking it.

I've had this EXACT problem in my '02 Trans Am (now with 425 miles on it). I called up a service guy... this is what he told me... Basically, GM is aware of this problem (with a bushing somewhere -- he didn't tell me where and I didn't ask but should have). He said that you should let it "break in" until about 3k miles before worrying about the sound. Then, if it's still making the noise, take it in for service. He said that the fix recommended by GM is to simply make a "bushing adjustment"... whatever that means. He seemed quite certain about what I was talking about so I guess I'll trust him. Still makes me nervous, though.

I haven't spoken to the dealer service rep yet but if yours says it's a bushing then it couldn't be the differential or gears. Must be a suspension bushing. My 89,5.0 mustang makes lots of clunks in the rear and I got so frustrated with dealing with the install shop I bought this car. At least I have a warranty. Love everything else about the car.

Just thought it could be a clutch adjustment.
