Is a 700R4 just as strong as a 4L60E

Without gettting into to many aftermarket parts,are they just as strong,and would they handle a 500 rwhp motor?Thanks Sean

4L60e is basically a 700r4, but with an eletronic valve body i think. I know they have electronics and that is about the only difference. I have a friend running over 500 hp on his 4l60e and it holds just fine, so I dont see why a 700r4 would be any different.

So besides the electronic's you could bolt parts from a 700 into a 4L60E? My 4L60E is on its way out and I havent had luck with it shifting so I have a 700R4 I want to rebuild so I dont have to worroy about the stall size.

Yes, i saw a list of parts for the "bullet proof" 4l60e and there were parts from the 700r4 and 200r4 rebuild kits, plus lots of other things.

700R4 = Hydralic controlled...
4L60E= Electronic controlled but its the same tranny...

500hp on a stock tranny like that not a chance in hell, but one thats build for it absolutely.

500 horse on a stock or near stock 700 no friggin way. I have problems with my measly 380 rwhp eating 700s. I finally gave up and bought a Built one (netgearhead.com) The 700s are also very dependant on your Throttle cable settings , a wrong throttle cable adjustment can do damage quick. I would build the 4L60e up.

No way the stock tranny is gonna handle 500rwhp. 300rwhp is more like it.

My stock one crapped out on me when I had headers, 1.6 rockers, CAI, no cat, and a cutout.

I would not recommend a 700 with that much hp. I blew up my 700R4 last year at the bracket finals and I don't have anywhere near that horsepower.

so if the 700R4's and 4L60E are the same why wont it handle the power?I am probally putting out 400-425 rwhp now and my trans lasted 7months getting beat(I mean beat on hard) on daily,stock rebuild.I am thinking of upgrading a few parts to make it stronger.The reason I dont want to go back to the 4L60E is the car dont want to shift when using slicks at the track.I am going to put my heads and cam in soon so I think that would put me close to the 500rwhp mark

I dont plan on one lasting over a year acutally if they last a year I would be happay Just have it rebuilt every winter would be fine for me.

From my understanding, the 4L60/E & 700R4 are SIMILAR transmissions, but not the same! They share many of the same parts. The 4L60E is an electronic version of a 4L60 which is a beffier version of the 700R4. 93 Z's & TA's had either 700R4's or 4L60's & 94 & newer are all 4L60E's. I can't remeber which parts are beefier, but I think it's the clutch drums or something like that....but the 4L60/E's are definately stronger then 700's & 200's.

I would hope you aren't talking about the 2004r grand national tranny. They have a swap for 4th gens due to the fact that they are one of the strongest.....read the GMHTP article on em.

If you were to take an use the latest HD parts available in both units, the 700r4 should be slightly stronger due to the "cast iron" valve body acting as a "girdle". TH400's lose some of their strength if using an "aluminum" valve body. With what is available, I would use whatever the vehicle came with.
