Beefcake61 05-30-2002, 01:01 AM Having some problems with my windsheild, after just cleaning my car and washing windows and so forth, I noticed that night that my windsheild appeared to have waterspots on it. When I tried to rub it off w/ my finger, nothing happened. Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it.
Thanks
Rob

Kevin V 2002 SS 05-30-2002, 07:29 AM Alot of crud builds up on the windshield. A mild abrasive like the Zaino Z-12 will break it down. Even something such as "Bar Keepers Friend" will work. If the build up is really bad you may need to use a buffer to get it done well enough.

Markolc 05-30-2002, 10:09 AM I had a brand new windshield put on my car for $180. That was the best thing I have EVE done IMHO. The glass is CRYSTAL clear, not little chips, no little tiny spots only visible in the sun, nothing like that. If those spots drive you cazy enough, look into a new windshield. It's actually very easy to replace and you can't tell it was done when it's over.

Beefcake61 05-30-2002, 12:10 PM What do you mean by "Bar Keepers Friend"??

Kevin V 2002 SS 05-30-2002, 05:00 PM It is the brand name of the product and is a mild abrasive cleanser similar to AJAX or Comet household cleansers.

Kevin V 2002 SS 05-31-2002, 07:25 AM Possibly a mild polishing compound. It takes a mild abrasive and sometimes even a buffer to get out the really ground in crud out of the glass.

95 Z/28 LT1 05-31-2002, 03:41 PM Just use lots of windex with some fine steel wool and rub it a little, then do the windows like normal. NO, this wont scratch the glass either.
SuprSpdDB7 06-01-2002, 12:43 AM or.... if u live in a state that will replace the front windsheild for free... break it... (like FL, the insurance will pay FREE! the replacement of a new front windshield)
no no... don't do that.. i wouldn't want to scan an insurance company
Beefcake61 06-01-2002, 01:08 AM I'll have to try some of these suggestions, I'm off work tomorrow!!! Thanks for the input!

RxNupe 06-02-2002, 09:22 AM Be sure to post your results. I have the same exact problem on my new 2002 with only 2000 miles.

briansutherland 06-04-2002, 08:15 PM use a piece of steel wool and some glass cleaner. spray the windshield down with glass cleaner and scrub with a piece of steel wool this will remove anything that is on there and will not scrach the glass. I used to be a detailer at a Chevy Dealership so i know this works.
JSK333 06-04-2002, 09:06 PM I imagine that a mix of Dawn/Joy and water would remove them. They just sound like hard water spots.
Using newspaper instead of rags/paper towels really makes a big difference too!

Sciguyjim 06-06-2002, 08:06 AM I just cleaned an enormous number of water spots off all my windows. I put some vinegar into a spray bottle and sprayed the windows then let it work a few minutes. I just wiped them off with paper towels and the spots were gone. This worked for big spots on the paint too.
