Post Phew.. just washed the car w/ dish soap.. amazing...

Bah before you people yell at me

I had to use some wax the other day on the hood/spoiler to get some crap off the paint (it worked fine, since Zaino won't really rub anything off). So I decided to start the Zaino from scratch and use dish soap on the whole car..

The car went from full beading of water, to no beading of water.. it's amazing that stuff really takes off all wax/protectants.. car sure does come out squeaky clean.. it's drying off now to put the Zaino back on her

Nothing to yell about, it's perfectly normal to use DAWN or similar dish soap to strip wax before Zaino. The chemicals in the DAWN will eat clear through carnauba wax. Sounds like you're doing everything right so far.

DAWN (or other dish liquid) will NOT strip Zaino though. I've used Dawn over Zaino before and the water still beaded like normal. Zaino is very durable and can easily withstand dish liquids and even acid rain. Just never make a habit of washing with dish soap and everything's fine.

Good luck with the Zainoing!

Oh yeah, now would be a great time to use a clay bar since you car is clean from the dish soap. If you've never used clay on your car before, it'll make a HUGE difference in the slickness.

Well.. the car had 4 coats of Zaino on it roundabout.. but it's been sitting in the garage for the past couple months with not much use except for the track and club meetings, so I think it's been 6 months since i've refreshed the zaino.. and the wax i had to use just kinda ruined the whole look. So using the dishwashing soap just seemed to clean it all off..

I actually just finished my 1st new coat of Zaino.. and the car looks GREAT.. can't wait to layer them again I know the beading is back

Dish soap will strip Zaino IF you wash it enough. I removed my Zaino last spring to start from scratch again and I used AJAX. I had to wash it three times but after the third time it had no Zaino on it whatsoever Obviously the more coats of Z you have the more dish soap washes it will take to remove it.

Sal told me that Dawn will NOT remove Zaino, I guess the Ajax must be considerably stronger than Dawn then.

DAWN will NOT strip your clear coat with one use, it's not that strong. It will strip any carnauba wax you have on the car. It takes rubbing compounds and sandpaper to degrade clearcoats, DAWN is nowhere near that strong.

Yep, the Dawn will strip it clean and wax free. I like to use a heavy concentration in the wash bucket so that it "eats" the wax off quicker and better. You should notice that the water will sort of lay on the surface in pools (sheet) since there's no wax left.
