My speedo was only working occasionally and was jumping around like crazy.I got rid of my cruise control and old cables and had a shop put in a brand new speedo cable direct from speedo to trans. Its still jumping around erratically
but it does work all the time.Whats the deal..I think they may have lied when I asked if they greased the cable as per the box instructions.Would no grease make it act like this.Could my speedo gauge be screwed up.I am pretty sure can find another one at wrecker. Also is it hard to make say a 160 mph one work.I hate the lamo 85mph speedo.

2nd gen Camaro speedo's are interchangeable and indicate the correct speed no matter which version speedo you swap in. I expect the Firebird speedos would be interchangeable too. If you want the odometer to read the same, you can swap your original odometer into your 'new' speedo. (you can with Camaro's anyway...)

maybe the gear in the trans is screwed up.

It sounds like the speedometer is bad.

I found out guys who installed speedo cable for me..I had a stereo install shop do some work and figured they could handle speedo cable install..wrong..they didn't put it in right and it got burnt up on the exhaust manifold.I redid it properly at
local midas muffler..get lots of custom work on my cars there and was there for some other work and the cable is spinning nice now.have to hook up speedo and see how it works.waiting on some leds which am putting in dash pod in place of standard light bulbs..
