Exclamation Attn: norcalstreet; Need Rear End Help!

After attempting to replace a wheel bearing, I have accepted failure, and am frankly having a fun time putting everything back together. But To remove the axle, I had to unscrew the retaining pin from the diff, and then remove the big pin/block from the center of the diff. Thing is, I don't remember which way it goes back in!!! Either way, the diff still operates, I think it's just for lubrication but I wanna get it right. Can anyone describe how it goes into the diff? If you need a pic to refresh your memory I have one. Thanks a lot!!!

You just slide it in so the screw fits in correctly.

It fits both ways! The designs(hole and slot) on the block are not symmetrical, so if I put it in one way, they will work correctly, and the other, they will not and I will probably fry my diff. The block fits in both ways and the pin holds it in both ways too. I don't know how the slot and the hole in the block work so I cannot make an educated descision, and most of the time when the chances are 50/50, I get it wrong.

The big pin only serves to hold the c-clips in. That's its only function. As long as it's in there and you're able to get the retaining screw in to hold it in place you'll be fine.

Just to clarify did you or did you not remove the differential?

No I didn't remove the differential. I gave up and will take it to Midas or someplace similar.

I figured out how to put the block in with a pic someone sent me. It does have more function than just holding in the c-clips, or it wouldn't of been machined in such an intricate way. It actually scoops up oil a throws it over the gears inside the diff. Wouldn't be that important if I got it in wrong though. Thanks.
