Well, after the run back home from the dyno, we had a funny noise in the passenger side valve cover. After pulling it off, we found that we had a oiling problem. Not enough oil to the top end, roached 3 rockers. Talking with the builder today, he is gonna fix everything. BUT, I have to pull this damn thing again.    If anyone wants to lend a hand, drinks and food is on me. Gonna start on it tomorrow, maybe tonight. DAMN DAMN DAMN

Tomorrow would work better. I can get everything arranged tonight and set for tomorrow. I have to get the engine hoist there, and I will clean up the tools so I know where everything is at. Thanks Mike, and if you need me to I will kick a few bucks back from those wires to cover your gas. I just figure the more hands pulling it apart the faster I can get it back on the road. I will let you know if all goes well tonight on getting it ready for tomorrow. It took me about 6 hours by myself to pull it out the first time. Should go faster this time

Q, you know I am there for ya buddy. I'll give ya a ride in my car considering that I can get the damn thing running.... again.

By the way, I HATE DOING RIGHT OFF THE DRAWING BOARD AND ON TO THE CAR MODS! Friggin Holley sends you this chincy little schraeder valve thats gotta be torqued to like 40 ft lbs.... (guessing, because thats how hard I was cranking on it) and the damn thing is made of brass so you can imagine what happens the FIRST time you slip with the wrench on it. Stripped.....

Q-man, I would come and help out if I could... but this week is "tech week" for the Bach Festival performance of Bach's B-minor mass and there are rehearsals I can't miss.

Maybe my brother can come help out. He's a night owl anyway.

Thanks to all of you who offered to help. My cell number is 616-299-4335, if you get the time and feel like it, give me a call when you get to GR and I will guide you in. We are right by old kent ball park for those of you who know where that is. It is right off 131 just north of GR. I am going to be there around 5:30 tomorrow night, and I will stay till it is out. Thanks again

I welcome any and all help. From good old fashioned get dirty help, to a bit of comic relief. I can use all the comedy I can get right now. This REALLY sucks

sounds like your builder is gonna do you right, thats the good thing. Yeah he is taking care of me quite well. In fact he is even working for my tomorrow so I can get out early. Its weird to see someone get upset when one of his "kids" has a problem. But that is why I chose to have him do it. I know he knows his stuff, and he will actually help out with stuff. The rockers have been ordered already. The only real thing I will pay for is fluids that are lost when I pull it. But I can absorb that and be ok. I cant complain to loudly....I mean hell, he did give me a motor that put almost 400 HP to the wheels. Get some bugs worked out and I still will have 400 ponies. That at least is a good thing. Just wish we knew what it was that prevented the oil from reaching the upper end. Total of 4 rockers are cooked. In fact heres a shot of number 3 cylinder. www.partspit.com/netimages/rocker.jpg We figure either a passage has something in it, or the rockers are not coming forward enough to expose the entire oil passage. But you get the idea by the picture.

That makes me feel sick man. Good luck with getting it back on the road and let me know when you'll be dynoing again cuz I wanna see that 400 rwhp pull first-had :-).

Before ya pull it you might want to check the pushrod if you haven't already. There could be a problem with them not letting oil to the top also??? Just a though. If ya need it, I can lend a hand also since i'll be there to pick up the pump. Don't have much experience with F-body's, but I can turn a wrench, or a ratchet. :D

Thanks Gutlass and Mike. I appreicate it. I hope it wont drag that long, I want to have it out tonight. Hopefully It will happen. I doubt I can have it stripped to deliver, but it should be able to be out tonight sometime. Its gonna be like a cartoon. All you will see is people under the hood and parts flying out.;)

Q

BTW, pushrods were the first thing we thought of. No dice....It has to have a passage blocked somewhere.

Q, isn't there a way on LT1's to spin the oil pump and see if the oil passages are blocked like on a regular SBC? I have this oil pump primer thing that when you put it on a drill and crank the bitch up, oil starts spurting everywhere from the top of the rockers. We did that on my first motor build and I was able to squirt oil from the rockers out on to the floor of the garage.

(Rockewll 2hp drill or somthing stupid like that:D)

(Rockewll 2hp drill or somthing stupid like that:D) Yes and no. You can do that, but there is no distributer hole to make contact with the oil pump. Intake needs to be removed. Actually we were talking about it this morning. Beginning to get worried. Possibility that the oil starved the cam and spun a bearing blocking off the oil passage. I swear, if it is a major problem I am parking the bitch for the year. I have had it with this thing. I am broke, pissed, and disgusted. :(

What did the motor sound like when you finally shut her down? Bearing kits are relatively inexpensive, Q.

My car is done, except the stupid drivers seat and my LCA's, so I'll help ya out whenever wherever. I need to work on cars!!! withdrawlllll :(

By the way, I might be bringing the new woman. I'm gonna try to get her to be a grease monkey with us. :D Nothing cuter than a big boobied blonde with a rachet in her hand and grease all over. ;)

damn Q-
mike just sent me this link...

dont feel bad- my pickup fell off. luckily i held 25-30psi so i was still good for a bit.

I've had it with "little things" on my car. i think we are taking my motor out, changing the header gaskets, checking headers for flatness, checking heads for flatness (exhuast leak is annoying me!), rewelding the Y pipe, new stall and powdercoating stuff.

Im not thrilled with the cam either. i think i'm going to go more lift and less durration and try to push the powerband down 300rpms.

anyway- i know how it feels :-/
sorry to hear it
