Help! Rattling sound from procharger p1sc at idle?
Help! Rattling sound from procharger p1sc at idle?
I have a strange problem. I just installed a 5# procharger kit on my 2000 WS6. When the car is idling, I get a metal on metal vibration sound. I put the car up in the air, and I can feel the vibration on the blower itself. It definitely seems to be localized there. What is puzzling me is that when I rev the car, the noise seems to disappear. I double checked the setup and the belt is rock solid, and everything seems to be securely mounted. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

sounds like an install problem. You got the procharger label facing flat and upright? I had to turn the actual procharger unit to get my label to sit the way they wanted it. Had a similar noise until I flipped it correctly. GL
Check the supercharger pulley mounting bolt and make sure it is tight. Mine started having a very loud "rattle" at idle and this was the problem. Thought my bearings were going bad. Might be worth checkin.

TTT, I'm curious... I have this same sound at idle-1500 rpm usually only when i'm not accelerating. To tighten the pulley do you just tighten it with the belt on? I don't see any other way... Anybody else have experience with this problem???

Old thread, but I figured I'd add to it.
According to ATI it is perfectly normal to hear a sort of rattling sound from a P-1SC at idle. It can and often does make this noise at idle similar to what I would consider "marbles rattling inside it". The noise should go away immediately when you give a little gas and rev the engine out of idle. If you're experiencing this, you probably have nothing to worry about. If the noise continues at other RPMs, then you may have other problems. Make sure you added the proper amount of oil (which is a no brainer--add the whole 6 oz. bottle to an empty P-1SC). If you still have concerns, I would urge you to call ATI at 913-338-2886 and ask to speak to a technician and explain what you're hearing. Have your serial number handy (off the blue tag on the blower).
