Alright Everyone They're almost done.... Custom LED/Clear Bird Tails

Alright... I've been talking about these forever and finally after WAY too long I've almost got them done.. I'm working on them right now.. and I figured I'd post some pics.....

These are CRAZY bright....

Ask whatever you'd like... And if I'd make another set... not right now... I'd say I have about 40+ hours in just building them... not mentioning the research time... But they should rock!

Thumbs up

very cool.

make sure you post some details when you have some time. This looks like a cool project to combine with sequiental tail lights and LS1 honey-comb lenses.

These are the projects I dig.

Buy on the net.... well, kinda, but NOT like these....

There are 18 Very High Intensity Red LEDs....6 for parking, 12 for stop/turn. There's no way that a "bought" bulb will be anywhere near nice as this, not to mention the 19th LED... a Blue one directly in the center.. for that Blue Glass Dot effect....

Plus just the factor of being able to say I built my own tail light bulbs...

The housings are 6061-T6 Aluminum, along with the retaining nuts. The one picture there that is a transparency is the Positive I used to create the circuit boards that the LEDs mount to, which then get encapsulated into the aluminum housings with flowable RTV.

Man - very nice work! Looks very professional. You will definitely have something to be proud of, and will no doubt stir up some interest in the Firebird crowd.

So, when you gonna build me a set for the Camaro?

The Red LEDs I got from PartsExpress.com, @ the quantity I bought them they were about $.34 a piece, and I'm using 108.... but you're going to need extras..

Build a set for the camaro's... I dunno... I know mine I have to take the tail lights apart to get the bulbs into it.. that's why the pics are of the reflectors, and not the entire housing. I'll be gluing the housings together tonite.. if all goes well...
