Tachometer

Why does my 1992 Chevy Camaro
tachometer reading 5.5rpm even when the engine's off. When running it pins the needle.

Can anyone give me some feedback on how to fix this? I appreciate any advice you can give.

there are diodes and other electronic bits that go wonky on these cars.you can have a shop re build it for a small sum .and it keeps you from buying junk that wont work.and the fit and function is guaranteed

It's more than likely the variable resistor chip that has gone bad. I have repaired many of these over the years. You must identify the circuit with the faulty resistance and insert the proper resistor in its place.
