aright i went out and took another look and noticed a few things
1) the places where the bolts are seem to be bent down (too much torque, probably why they are leaking) can i bend them back, i dont have a ball pien hammer can i use a regular one?
2)do i need to remove the vacuum tube and hose for the brake booster and the bracket for the AC or will i be able to get around them

If you use the rubber type do not use silicone ,use a regular gasket sealer, silicone(RTV) doesn't like to stick to rubber to well and will start leaking again. Also buy yourself a ballpeen hammer you'll need one sooner or later anyway and they aren't to expencsive either. When you bend the holes back ,you will want to over bend them a little too.

You don't need thick valve cover gaskets. Stock thickness (about 1/8") will be fine. If you plan on taking the valve covers on and off regularly you want reusable valve cover gaskets- ones with metal inserts inside a rubber gasket. Summit has what you need for about $20. Use no gasket sealer on them at all- install dry right outta the package, regardless of gasket type used.
A set of spreaders to distribute the force more evenly away from the bolts help quite a bit. You can buy a set just about anywhere for cheap. You might need slightly longer bolts than stock if you use these spreaders as they add about 1/8" thickness to the overall assembly. That's no big deal- hardware store bolts are readily available.
Last- DON'T tighten like crazy. Snug is plenty. They'll never really feel like they're "home" and get real tight on you. They'll always feel like there's some "give" left to them. Resist the temptation to keep cranking them down. It takes very little torque to seal up a valve cover. More torque won't help and will often CAUSE a leak by distorting the valve cover or gasket, making the situation worse (like what happened to your valve covers already).

thanks guys
i bought a 12 oz craftsman ball pein hammer today and the felpro black rubber gaskets from autozone, i dunno if they have the metal inside tho and they diddnt have the load speaders at autozone, i gotta try another parts place tomarow are they absomlutely necessary?
so no RTV then, whats the difference in a gasket sealer?
