My Dad's come across some with an '88 Firebird that has a spoiler like the old Smokey & the Bandit T/A's of the late 70's. They claim it's stock but I can't seem to find anything to prove this.

So... anyone know if there was such an option on '88 Firebirds?

It may very well be stock. That 2nd gen type spoiler was part of the Z20 Sport Appearance package for the 88 model year. As far as I know it was only available on Firebirds, not formula's or T/A's. Here is a picture of an 88 Firebird SA.
