The Commodore is brand new, and they knew to design it to US crash standards from the get go... so yes, the G8 is new from the ground up. The Holden just came out first.
Gotta think globally now.
I'll agree the GTO was a rebadged Monaro though. They had to bastardize the trunk to get it to US specs.

After seeing the G8 today...gotta say...good lawd, thats a HOT car!! Overhangs on the front are little to none. Bigger wheels, great stance...just a great looking car. Wish they picked a better color then whatever that brown/gray was.

Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't trying to say THIS car SHOULD have been the GTO, I was just saying the the overall look and feel are more Pontiac and GTO-ish than the car that was actaully used for the GTO. Yeah, I definately wouldn't want a 4 door goat, but wouldn't the G8 be even sweeter as a 2 dr couple?? Hmmmm?
And yes, the G8 is a rebadged Commodore. It was supposedly never supposed to be a Pontiac, therefore, while the commodore is all new, this car is still a rebadge with a nose job
GM is finally thinking globally. The architecture under the G8 is basically what we should be seeing under the camaro.......

I'd be torn between this gray, white or silver if I was interested in getting one.
