how do these tires compare in performance when on the front wheels? 275/40/17. I want to put Nittos on the Grand Sport ZR1 rims i'm getting, but which ones should I put on the front wheels? How many miles are the 555 rates for? How many miles on the 555RII?

Re: nitto 555 v. 555RII
I would like to know as well. I'll probably be putting the 555r's on my car with 275/17 in the front and 305/18 in the back. How do these Nittos perform in the rain?

Re: nitto 555 v. 555RII
The 555 is a high performance road tire, expected life is around 20-23K

The 555R is a drag radial, its preferred to match these up with a regular 555 in the front. They're decent in the rain, but not as good as a full tread depth tire.

The 555RII is a road race tire, this tire will last 6k at best, depending on driving style.

So what would you recommend in the front and back with Nittos?

Regular 555's in the front for the handling and treadwear and the 555R Drag Radials in the rear for ability to hook up.

Keep me in mind when you're ready to order.

Re: nitto 555 v. 555RII
Ok, thanks for the info. I have the 555's all around right now and love em. They handle pretty good in the rain, but i don't push it in the rain either. I thought the 555's were good for like 30k?

Depends on how hard you drive them.

Re: nitto 555 v. 555RII
I have the 555RII's on my 88. They are really slick when it's cold outside but get really grippy when they heat up after a mile or two, you will hear rocks hitting the fenders.
The ride is pretty rough due to the really really stiff sidewall.
I bought the wheels/tires used with 6/32'nd tread which I believe is the tread depth they come when new. I've driven about 700 miles on them and one auto-x event and they still look pretty decent. And they stick really well when cornering.

Re: nitto 555 v. 555RII
The Nitto 555RII will last 10-11K miles easily, as I have had three sets make it to that point. All three had some racing on them as well. They are an awesome street tire.

Re: nitto 555 v. 555RII
Will the 18x10.5 with a 305 tire in the back with a offset of 56 *or 58 I can't remember which one* rub at all?
