Go to the FAQ.... scroll down to the middle of the 1st page, to this thread:

What size tires fit on what size wheels?

Re: need help with tire sizes

Well ive been using the FAQ, its helping but im still having problems trying to figure out which tires will be right. Also atm i cant exactly go out to my car and do any kind of measurements, cause im in iraq. Im trying to get them ordered and put on back home before i get back sorta as a gift to myself i guess.
From what i can figure out i need 245/45-17 in the front and 275/35-18 in the rear. Does that sound right? Would that give me any wheel rub problems?

Re: need help with tire sizes

Whether they will rub depends on the offset of each wheel. The 18x10 will be OK if it has the 45mm offset that AR seems to use on their wider wheels. If you know the offsets of the wheels, I can tell you if they will work.

Fronts - the 245/45-17 is a good choice. That will match the stock tire diameter if your car came with the 245/50-16 Z-rated tire option.

Rears - I think I would go with the 285/35-18 in the back. That gives you a shade more diameter, and a shade more width.

Re: need help with tire sizes

I have one last question, kind of stupid i guess, but i dunno. The tires with the sizes i have picked, 245/45-17 for 17 x 8 says tire width of 9.65", that a problem? Same thing with the rears 285/35-18 on 18x10, and says tire width of 11.22".

Re: need help with tire sizes

What tire fits on what wheel is determined by the engineer that designed the tire. Look at the FAQ and you will see the typical recommendations for each tire size. The closer your wheel width is to the middle of the range, the better it is. If you look at a site like Tire Rack, they will show you the recommended wheel size, and then tell you the wheel width that they actually measured the tire width on. That's the "ideal" wheel, but as long as you stay in the manufacturers range, you are OK.

Take the 10" wide wheel for example. The 10" is measured at the points where the tire beads seat. That means there is an additional 1/2" of "flange" on either side of the stated wheel width. Most wheels are 1" wider overall than their stated size. A 10" wide wheel is actually about 11" wide, meaning the 11.22" tire width will be just slightly wider than the wheel, providing a small tire bulge to protect the rim.

The wheel is measured at the tire beads. The tire (section) width is measured at the "bulge".... or the widest point of the tire. Wheel width should be slightly smaller than the "section width".

Again, all of this is covered in various posts in the FAQ.
