MPG improvement with Prostars or others?

This might sound crazy to some, but has anyone with a street driven car seen an MPG improvement with lighter weight drag wheels? Chevy specs the Cruze ECO with lighter weight wheels to support higher MPG. I'm building my engine now on the 95 Z28 and thinking a lot about the Prostars for icing on the cake. Even more awesome if these wheels support both lower ET's and higher MPG's.

To clarify, I drive 130 miles round trip per day to work.

Even a .5 mpg improvement would be great.

No one has checked their mileage with lightweight drag wheels?

I doubt most drag wheels are up to the task of 130 mile daily commutes. However, lighter wheels will improve mileage. Less for the engine to have to rotate.

Re: MPG improvement with Prostars or others?

For many of us who use Pro-Stars and similar light weight wheels, they are usually equipped with tires that are significantly different than the tires on our stock wheels/street wheels. My Pro-Stars have 26x4.5" skinnies on the front, and 28x10.5-15W slicks on the rear. Checking the fuel mileage is the last thing I would be interested in.

The really narrow fronts are clearly marked as for track use only. They are not intended to handle the cornering loads of a daily driver.

It is acceptable to use the Prostars on the street according to their website. I'd say most people who go through the trouble to fit them on our cars are probably running non-daily driver friendly tires, as Injuneer is doing.

If I end up doing it with some street friendly tires, I'll post the results.

If you go to the table that shows various sizes, you will find the narrow wheels are not for street use. Mine are very clearly stamped, embossed into the center of the wheel "DRAG RACE ONLY".

Just curious.. Why wouldn't most drag wheels be up to the task of 130 miles ?

Most of the skinny wheels are very lightweight. A 130 mile daily commute puts lots of stress on them. To get that light weight material has to be thinner. An F-body carries around 1800 lbs on the front wheels, which is a lot of stress. I never said you couldn't drive them 130 miles. I said 130 mile daily commutes may increase the risk of a failure. It is like putting 520 passes on them per day.
