custom wheels

how much does it cost to make some custom wheels?
17x9.5
and
17x11

Duplicate stock 10-spokes, and add a 1" lip to the front, and 2" lip to the rear.

How much would something like that cost?

PLEASE ONLY POST IF YOU HAVE INFO ON CUSTOM MADE WHEELS. This is not for just widening wheels

Re: custom wheels

A good person to ask would be Mr. Jason Debbler. He recently had the idea of his own unique wheels, got in contact with someone who could make them, and is now making several of his wheels, and selling them to the public.

Re: custom wheels

This is just a guess, but if you wanted to make your own custom, one of a kind wheel the price would have to be $4000+

Re: custom wheels

Are there any wheel companies out there that can do this? I've heard 4k-10k for wheels.

I'm not paying 10k for wheels.....but i really want to make this design happen. I think they would be very popular. I read Jason's thread but didn't find what I was looking for. Any suggestions?

Re: custom wheels

Do a search over on www.ls1tech.com for wheel widening. There are a lot of guys over there that have had stock SS/WS6 or Firehawk rims widened and they have turned out great. The price is right too!

Re: custom wheels

why does everyone immediately go to wheel widening. I've considered it, but don't want to widen my SS wheels as they are no longer in production.

I'm looking for info on creating CUSTOM wheels.

Re: custom wheels

Maybe because its much more cost effective. One might ask, why spend $4k+ on custom made wheels most people will think are stock???

Just because a wheel isn't made anymore doesn't make them more valuable. IMO and many other's, the 10 spoke isn't that good looking. The only reason they get any popularity is because they tend to cost less than other 17X9's. If they were so popular there would be reproduction wheels for them like the ZR1.

Just get a 2nd set of the buggers and widen them. Personally, I wouldn't worry about .5" wider up front.

I'm not asking for what is cost effective. I just want to know of some places that will do it. Why do it when it won't be super different? Because it WILL be different. Talk to Chip Foose.....he says the highest compliment he can receive is "What did you do?" Because it all blends in like it was factory. I like that. Thats what I want to do. I'm not going to describe the complete design. But it will be subtle differences that will enhance the aggressiveness of the car, and also match the power level the car will be putting out.

Generally speaking, when items are no longer available, their value does go up. I don't care if people will pay more for them cuz i'm not selling. But they do hold value as they are going to be harder to replace if ever damaged. I got them because i really like the 10spokes. Everyone and their grandma has ZR1s. Those wheels are everywhere....and its getting old. When I ordered my 10spokes, they cost exactly the same as the ZR1s. I don't know where you got they cost less. They are not an 'inferior' wheel the mighty ZR1. And out here, they are pretty popular. A lot more people out here are buying them now.

I'm NOT widening them. SO PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST IT AFTER THIS. You also didn't understand the concept. I'm not having custom wheels made that are 1/2" wider in the front. 17x9.5 front with a 1" lip. 17x11 rear with a 2" lip.

Re: custom wheels

You never stated in your first post that YOU DID NOT WANT TO WIDEN, so don't get all pissy because poeple suggest it. Its YOUR oversight. We don't read minds.

Ii get that the 10 spokes are cheaper because they are. They don't sell well at all around here. If wheels no longer made hold their value was a fact, I have some stock 70 Camaro SS 14" steel wheels I'll sell ya! The problem with your theory is that they also need to be higly desired over a large population, not just discontinued. Even 4th gen f-bodies are still declining in value.

I'm not pissy, i was just responding to each part of your post so you could understand what I was talking about. Get a grip dude. I edited the first post, so it should be clear now. Please stop trolling my thread. I'm looking for help, not sarcastic comments.

Re: custom wheels

I would contact Boyd Coddington's shop. They are capable of machining custom wheels. I have also though about this myself, but instead I would keep two of the ten spokes as is and have only the rear custom made, 17x11 with a 2.5 inch lip in the rear, or a 18x10 with a 2 inch. lip in the rear.

I would love to see someone do this, as I don't have the money to have this done.

These wheels start off at $300-400/each so I'm thinking maybe $600/$700 for each custom wheel.
