changing rear studs on 4th gen?
 

I'm thinking of getting some ARP studs and am wondering what is involved in terms of labor for the rears?

I was looking at mine last night (93 Z28) and looks like they are part of the rotors? If so, if i was to get new rotors, do they come with new lugs or do they have to press another set in?

They are pressed into the axle flange from the inside, not part of the rotors, worst case, you need to slide the axles out for clearance if they are long studs

The stock studs can be removed from the axle flanges without pulling the axles. In theory, you press them out with hydraulic press or a stud removal tool, but for all practical purpose, you can hammer them out. Put an old lug nut on the end of the stud, flush with the end to protect the threads, then hammer on the nut.

If you back the axle flanges up with a block of wood, it will prevent damaging the axle bearings. I'd say about 1 minute per stud to hammer them out, and no more than a couple minutes per stud to pull the new ones in, using several washers between the axle flange and a surplus lug nut threaded on with the flat side against the washer.

As noted above, if you are putting anything longer than stock, you may have to pull the axles. If you have traction control, it can also complicate things, because the wheel speed reluctors block the exit path of the studs. But traction control was not available i 93, so that's a non-issue.

i know that u can skip pulling the axles by grinding a small section of the mount where the rear calipers go. just rotate the rear wheel till it lines up with the grinded area and install. you'll know what im talking about once u get down there and ready to put the new studs in
