BFG Grag Radial Track Technique

BFG Grag Radial Track Technique
What is the proper way to use a drag radial tire at the track?
Is a burnout required to heat'em up or just a quick few spins to clean them off?
What tire pressure range do you use?
Do you guys take these into the waterbox?
Thanks

Re: BFG Grag Radial Track Technique
hmmm.. everyone has their own techniques..
It depends really on how much bite the track has that night and how much power your car has..
So, check out the track and see how sticky it is..
First pass, go around the waterbox, straighten up and do a quick spin to clean them up.. stage and launch.. IF you spin, then heat them up on the next pass. If you dont, repeat and save the rubber for low traction days..
To heat them up, I find most people agree that 3-5 sec of smoke is fine.. Remember it takes a few seconds to get the smoke going. I think its best to have someone flagging you to help you.
I would go around the water box on EVERY pass, back up into the water box.. pull forward then start the spin.. Keep those fronts dry so they dont drip onto the track...
Good luck!

always heat them up initially. if the track is warm and grips well, roll through the water box and do a quick 1 second burnout just to get the tires clean and the water off.

Not all DRs are the same...When I was using the BFGs I used to do a light hazey burnout. With the M/T radials they like more heat and a bit longer of a burnout...

Re: BFG Grag Radial Track Technique
my nittos i would run with between 15-18 psi depending how the track was that night. I also used to use the waterbox for a nice burnout first and still pulled crappy 60' (1.89) times. Damn 2.73's!
You can also over inflate the fronts to get less rolling resistance...

I was running my 275 40 17 BFG DRs at 19psi, my 255 50 R16 M/T ET Radials at 17 psi, and I've yet to go to the track with my 275 50 R15s M/T ET Radials, but I'm thinking 15-17 psi...You can run less pressure with more sidewall....generally...You just have to be careful with the radial as you can go too low and cup the tread and lose the contact patch...
