Question Any Thoughts on Kumho Ecsta ASX Tires?

I have a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro 3.4 V6 and I am needing to buy some more tires soon. Currently my car has some Kumho Ecsta 711 Tires from the previous owner. I was thinking about sticking with Kumho and maybe buying a pair or a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX All Season "Ultra High Performance Tires" (245/50/16). Im in northeastern florida so it doesnt get too cold here, but I would like extra handling incase of the occasional ice on the road and hydroplaning resistance.

I drive probably around 18,000 miles a year or less, so I don't do a lot of driving and would like some decent tires without having to spend too much money, considering theres a bunch of other things higher on my priority list with my Camaro that I'd like to work on.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried this specific tire model and what everyone's thoughts were on the model and the brand in general. I found the tires on TireRack for like $90 a piece shipped, so I doubt I could beat that price.

Wow, 18,000 miles a year is considered not a lot of driving? I didn't rack that up between both of my cars with several out of state trips!

yea 18,000 miles a year a quite high, the national average is around 12,000 i believe, but anyway that really doesnt matter. I have the kumho asx and they are alright for an all season tire. I only have them on my fronts right now but i have heard they do not hook up all that well under hard acceleration but for the price they are not bad.

I think those are what I'm getting. My formula has the Ecsta supras right now and the ASX seems to have better performance ratings (on tire rack) than the supras. For the price/performance they look tough to beat and I have ET streets for the track so I'm not worried about that aspect.

I have the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 (275/40ZR17) on my Z28. I have used these tires for over 2 1/2 years & 25,000 miles. They still have a TON of thread, and will last for another year for sure.

I wouldn't feel bad about buying some more Kumhos.

As far as the mileage.... Did I mention that I'm the manager of a computer company during the day (so I'm always running quick errands or going to a clients) and I deliver pizza at night? (Easy money put straight back into my car)

Maybe that sheds light on the mileage.

They're just like any other hard all season radial. Sidewall may be softer than the 711.

As for the occasional ice on the road. If you hit a solid and big enough patch of ice, no tire will make a difference.

With Discount, I got them to match their online price with free shipping. I put in 2 zip codes in TX and then Oklahoma and the tire price went from ~$170 here in DFW to ~$190 in Houston to ~$150 shipped when I put in OK and got the discounttiredirect price. They matched the $150. Pays to shop.

What sucks is that they still tack on sales tax which you don't pay if you order form a company outside your state so I'd have ended up at least $50 less expensive if I had orderd the tires and not paid sales tax and had gone to NTB to get them mounted/balance. Had I had time, I may have gone that route.

A bonus for Discount is that they have the replacement warranty you can buy and an automatic one pro-rated based on tread depth.
