Nice job.

Would you mind if I "stickied" this post? We have virtually no information about the 3rd Gens, and this is a great example.
Did you measure the difference in width between the 3rd Gen and 4th Gen axle assembly width? I've seen the 4ht Gen reported as both 3" and 4" wider. What length studs did you have to use for the 0.6+" rear slip on spacer? |
ok sure you can sticky this if you want
i used ARP 2.5" long studs for the rear since i needed longer studs for my weld drag wheels. I use a 5/16" slip on spacer for my drag wheels to clear the LS1 rear brakes. I ground down the caliper too to clear the 15 inch drag wheels Now with the 19" C6's i needed .625" slip on spacer to get the wheel centered right in the wheel well. It was tooo tucked before, so i moved it out to just near the lip. (Most 4th gen camaro rims will fit a 4th gen rear end swapped thirdgen without spacers) The spacer is wheel centric, meaning it was machined with a lip to match the wheel centerbore and the centerbore of the spacer also matches the rear hub. This takes stress off the studs. HIGHLY recommended for spacers greater than .5", or even .375". ARP studs tho are very strong so they can handle a good load 93-97 4th gen rears are about 2" longer per side. the 98-02's for some reason are a tad shorter, around 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 inch longer per side. Not much difference, but it is a difference. most guys with a stock 3rd gen rear will want to use a 2.5 inch bolt on spacer for 19x10 79mm offset C6 wheels. I think same will apply to a Z06 wheel |
Clean, good lookin' 3rd Gen!!

Looks awesome! :thumb:

rear
so do u have the 93-97 rear or 98-02 rear?
|
98-02 rear
|
Did u have problems with the bump stops? is that why you used .625 spacers?
i just installed my ls1 rear and the inside of the wheel hit the bump stops |
naw, the bumpstops are fine... the HUGE offset of these wheels required me to space them out farther.
the large 79mm offset i believe it is tucked them in way to far and they hit the inner wheel well. EVEN with the 4th gen rear which is almost 2 inches wider per side than the 3rd gen rear. So i got a 5/8 spacer to push it out even more to clear the inside. Kinda sucks but thats what you get with these wheels. With ARP studs which are longer than factory by a good inch or so, i have no problems getting lug nuts on and dont worry at all about spacer creating moment forces on the studs. they are more than strong enough and the spacer has wheel centric lip and hub centric bore so it fits very very tightly against the rear's hub and the spacer actually is stuck into the wheel's bore. that wheel lip which was extra cost adder feature was worth it. I could have it welded around the outside of the wheel where it contacts the mounting face and it would effectively cut out alot of that offset and be even stronger |
Do u have the arp studs part number?
I really want to put these wheels on, but the big brake kit sucked up all my money..... will post pics of car when i complete it.... |
nice looking wheel would be killer in one size all around 18 or 19. either way nice ride.
|
Thanks Kandied! Your car has been an inspiration to me. Very fine ride you got there and what you've done in the thirdgen world is appreciated by us all.
I'm gonna look at possibly getting a 18x10 C6 wheel or w/e size they make and see if i cant get someone to custom paint match it so i can have 18's all around. OR i'll buy 19x10's and try to fit them on the front. However, that spacing would need a long 3" or so spacer and i dont want to go that much. I think they have a 19x9 or something in other colors i may beable to paint match them. I'll have to see. I'd like to run a 19x11 or 12 out back and run bigger tires but there would need to be alot of fender mods ARP studs, look for the 12x1.5 studs that are 2.5" long I believe its this part number ARP 100-7708 |
i would not suggest going 19's unless it's truly a show car/pleasure car and you have cash to burn. as a thirdgen running 19's currently the tires are very expensive due to limited demand. the wheels are more expensive obviously due to size, heavier and overall a much larger expense for the 1" you gain.
enjoy the 18's. |
yeah tires are pretty expensive at over 300 a pop for the rears :) Its not really a show car but i do want it to look good. I think i'm gonna just hang onto my setup as is for now and look into different wheels down the road possibly in 18's. Not sure yet.

front pics
do u have any pics of the front of the car? i wanna see how your 1.75 inch spacers compare to my 1.5 spacers up front....thx
|
No i dont think i have any, but I can get some to show how well they fit under the fenderwell
this is the only one i have at this time http://inlinethumb32.webshots.com/26...500x500Q85.jpg |
So if you look at the fender from the top how much do they stick out?
the reason i want to know is that mine kind of look a little to inside the fender and was wondering if 1.7 inch spacers will take it out the fender just a little..... |
they dont stick out at all. 1.5" spacer would tuck them in way to far. My tire sidewall is about 1.25-1.5" inside the fender lip. typical 2" spacers would push it out more like an 1inch from the fender lip.
Since i plan to have C5 brakes over winter, i got 1.7" spacers since the new brake brackets will push the tire out another .30" you can see the front abit in this pic http://inlinethumb12.webshots.com/17...425x425Q85.jpg they are tucked well |
Man that is a nice 3rd generation especially the dark wheels on the black car really nice:)
|
It looks like it was made for the car looks better then it does on the corvettes:yes:
|
the wheel set it off, nice job w/ this one

that is a bad ass looking car
|
Orr really does have a nice ride!
4th Gen rear axle assembly. In order to make this sticky more applicable to most of us with these cars, does anyone have info on how to run these wheels on a factory 3rd Gen? EDIT: After looking around on some of the boards, it seems the thing to do is run at least 2" spacers all around - depending on what size/width Vette wheels you get... |
Re: 3rd Gen - 18x8.5/19x10 C6 Wheels
Any particular reason why you chose a "40" front tire and rear "30" tire? Does the rear "30" tire make the ride stiffer and rough?

got these last year ,, the spacers i used were 2" on the front and 2.5" on the rear ..the bumpstops had to be trimmed flush with the wheel well. and i had the inner lip massaged by a local body shop.;.. they do give the car a rougher ride though considering the rear tires are 285/35/19 theres little give in them ,, and there run flats so that makes it even worse.. aswell i found that the car tracks on uneven ground .. im told thats due to having wide front tires.. this is before the car was lowered.. you would not belive the differance in compliments i got from before the C6's and after.. |
