2002 SS wheels
2002 SS wheels
was it possible to buy a new SS in 2002 with the zr1 style SS wheels instead of the 10 spoke SS wheels??
also, what would be a good way to tell a real SS from a clone?? thanks for the help.

The last year for the 5 spoke SS wheels was either 99 or 2000. 2001 and 2002 SS's came ONLY with the 10 spokes.
As far as weather it's "real" or not.
My 2001 has an SLP decal on the back of the driver's door with the date it arrived at SLP to be "made" into an SS. The back of the passenger door has an SLP decal listing any additional SS mods (chrome wheels, bilstein susp., exhaust, etc.) done to it over the "normal" SS package.
I'd assume they did the same for 2002.
I would think there would probably also be an option code on the door GM build sheet decal with all the other Camaro options.

I don't think so. You could only get the silver painted 10 spokes. The chrome ten spokes came on the SLP option ones and the machined 10 spokes with the black pockets came on the special edition camaro SS. People with the 5 spokes probably bought them elsewhere like from SLP.
well i just got back from looking at the car, and it has the SLP sticker on the drivers side door jam. and on the passenger side it says, SLP options, center exit exhaust, and ZR1 wheels. so i guess you could order one without 10 spokes. wierd
Yes, it was possible to order the ZR1s on a 2002 SS. They were part of the SLP "second sticker" option list, which included Auburn differential, Bilstein or 1LE suspension, centre mount exhaust, deck mat, floor mats etc. My salesman, unfortunately, didnt know anything about ordering an SS, so what I got was one without any SLP content.
I have "detailed information" in the sense that I can tell you what the "second sticker" content was, but not the production codes or numbers of each item sold. The second or SLP sticker stuff on the SS Camaros was very similar to what SLP offered on their Firehawks (one of which I own). On the SS's, you had a choice of the following options (some of which were unique to certain model years, btw)
-wheels (either chrome or painted, ZR1 style)
-differential (Auburn)
-suspension (two choices: Bilstein or 1LE)
-dash plaque (unique to SS)
-cargo mat (unique to SS)
-exhaust (Center Mounted Exhaust)
-Blackwing air filter & lid (available on mid-2001 and 2002 models)
-portfolio (unique to SS)
-synthetic lube package
-SS floor mats
-extra pair of ZR1 rims, with a choice of performance or drag tires (this was only on the 1996-97 models, I believe)
(I may have forgotten something, I'm sure another SS owner will chime in and help)
You could get a personalized (with your name & build number) deck mat, but you had to order it afterward from SLP.
I dont believe a car cover for the SS was one of the options, but it was on the Firehawk.
If your salesman was uninformed, as mine was, your SS would arrive without any SLP options. My SS, as a result, had the standard 10 spoke rims, and just the SS hood & rear spoiler. It did, however, have the Hurst shifter, which was a GM option.
