20 inch wheels on 02?

I am seriously considering putting 20's on my 02. The wheel is 20x 8.5. I have 2 concerns though. I don't want it to look like a monster truck and I am afraid of rubbing. I cannot find too many pics of camaros with 20's. Am I looking at the right width too? Any help or pics would be appreciated!

You need to seriously consider getting a brain transplant. 20" 's on a Camaro? Just kill yourself now & spare the rest of the world your stupidity.

:barf:

please for the love of all that his right in this world....DO NOT DO IT!!!

the biggest that looks decent is 18s...and sometimes even those look strange depending on the spoke size

and rubbing should not be an issue if you get the correct offset and stick with a stock-ish size tire (25.6" total diameter)

There are people here running 20's, but I don't know their names..... guess you could search around a bit. Not a very popular choice, but there are a couple. Strictly for show.

You can use anything from 8" wide to 9.5" wide on all 4 corners. You can go up to 10.5" wide in the back. Whether it rubs is determined by the "offset" of the wheels. You need something around 45-55mm offset for most wheels. When you select a width, check back for the specific offset.

Next issue is matching the stock tire diameter... 25.7" if your car had the Z-rated 245/50-16's from the factory, or 26.1" if it had the base 235/55-16 tires. Its hard to get a small enough diameter on a 20" wheel. Probably looking at a 255/30-20 (26.1") for a wheel in the 8.5-9.5" range, or up to a 305/25-20 (26.2") in a 10.5" wide wheel.

Its hard to get enthusiatic about 20's on an F-Body... the solid rear axle isn't very happy with paper thin sidewalls, resulting in poor handling, the rims are susceptible to damage from the slightest bump in the road, the ride has got to be harsh as hell, the thin sidewall makes straight line traction near impossible...... I guess they're OK for some kind of show car, but its hard to think of them as usefull on a daily driver.

Search, this is asked at least every other week.

for the most part...everyone on this board is a hater. dont listen to them. the majority of them have stock cars with zr1's....17's....

there's plenty of camaros on 20s...and the only thing you need to do it keep in mind that crazy design rims will look ugly on our cars...stick to 20 inch 5 spokes...something clean.

run a search, look @ appearance or wheels and tires...something will show.

I agree that most people on this forum will give sh*t for having dubs on a f-body. Its your car....dont let others tell you what to do with your vehicle. If that is the look you are going for....do it.

Re: 20 inch wheels on 02?

20 inch wheels look nice on f-bodys. Try a 245/35/20 that worked without rubbing on mine when it had the 20x8.5's on it. And I did finally bite the bullet and squeeze some Lexani 22's under(although they do tuck nicely because my car is bagged) that I will one day take some pics of. I am not particulary a huge fan of giant rims on everything, but in the world I work with (show car) for the most part, you need them to outdo everyone else. If I were a rich man I would keep a set of 20's around for more "old people" kinds of car shows.

Stock huh?
Wanna race my "stock" car? ;)

I think its more that most of us like performance more than uber bling that'll decrease performance. I'll stick with 17's so I can afford tires that'll keep up with my car instead of spending what a set of AFR heads would cost on wheels and then have to go cheap and buy to no name Chinese brand tires that'll spin every time I tap the gas and cause you braking distance to to increase.

This man knows what he is talking about. Get your bling, while all you see is the license plate of my car ahead of you, and your bank account going broke when one of those tires goes bye bye from a nail in the sidewall.....300.00+ for one tire...can you say a set of 17" rims w/tires, and a top end rebuild for that much.

Re: 20 inch wheels on 02?

not to mention the brake upgrade you will need all the way around because the stock brakes will be dwarfed by these rims and wont be able to stop the rolling mass of these god awful 20's you are considering.
