19x12 wheel question

19x12 wheel question

Not sure if anyone has gone this wide yet but I'm about to order the ROH Modenas in this size, does anyone have the backspacing to have them stick out about 3/4"-1" from the rear quarters? I ask this because I have a custom shop in my area doing custom quarter panel work on my car and rolling the lip of the fender altmost like the ZR1/Sunoco camaro, the wells are being tub'd so im aware of the modifications to the inside. Any ideas on a tire? Ive seen them on Porsche and Vipers but I know we dont have that kind of room stock which is why i cant stay stock

Re: 19x12 wheel question

you might need to figure it out by going outside and determining the distance from the mounting surface of the rear hub to the edge of the rear fender, then adding the 3/4"-1". this site might help you out a bit:

http://www.skulte.com/adapterfaq.html

also, in case you didn't see it, there is a guy on the following link with 18x13 rears.... they stick out a bit..... might be exactly what you're looking for.

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showth...ight=forgeline

i know the frustration, i contacted a "Brand X" company and asked if they made wheels for my car in 18x11, and they said "we sure do, just tell us the offset and backspacing that you want"

hope this helps a bit.... or you could get smaller wheels....LOL

Re: 19x12 wheel question

Using the 17x11 GS offset wheel, the "front space" of 4.00" puts the outer edge of the wheel/tire just inside the Firebird fender, when looking straight down from above. That tells me you want a 4.75" - 5.00" front space. For a 12" wheel width you would want something in the range of 44mm (4.73" front space) to 37mm (5.01" front space). That number is calculated assuming a bead retention flange width of 0.466", similar to the ZR1's. If the ROH's have a different flange width, the numbers could vary by a millimeter or two.

After considering the above THEORETICAL calculation, and considering that you appear to be looking at wheels for a Z rather than a firebird, I would verify the numbers by doing exactly what "blacksix" told you to do. Get a straight edge.... put one end of it hard against the axle flange surface where the wheel will mount, and measure out-wards (if you don't add the hyphen to this word, the language filter zaps it - wonder why?) the distance you want the edge of the wheel to sit at. Give that info to the wheel manufacturer, and he knows enough to do the rest.
