Texas smog check "low mileage waiver"
Texas smog check "low mileage waiver"
Hi guys,
Has anybody gone through the actual process of getting a Low Mileage Waiver for a failed smog inspection? You qualify if you put less than 5,000 miles on your vehicle in a year, spend $100 on "emissions-related" repairs (how is this defined?), and put in an application at a "challenge station"....
So, who's done it? I put much less than 5,000 miles on my car in a year, and it may not pass smog after the cam is in, so I want to know what my options are for this process --- so... who's done it?
Thanks,
Michael

Never done that before, but it shouldn't be too hard to pass the smog test, except for NOX(69% of max allowable to pass), I would have qaulified for SULEV. Not sure how you would go about proving your low mileage to them without an official look at the odometer.
Do you have a cat on your car? Get one and have flanges put in so you can swap OR pipe and cat(s) in and out.
Next trick, use a decarbonizer like RXP the tank before the test.
Another trick, get some methonal or ethanol to add to your fuel. I have seen pure methanol sold in 99 cent bottles of coastal brand(no detergents or other additives, only ingredient is methonal/ethonal). Add 2 or 3 bottles to your fuel. FYI, E85 and E90 formulated fuels you buy at some gas stations already have some methanol/ethanol in them(look for the exspensive gas stations, they might have it or they might just be expensive aholes).
