Today my wife and had to go down to the court house becasue the other day she got pulled over for not having a front plate on the SS. So we go down there and figure that they will just dismiss it because I put the plate on. Nope, $100 fine.
Can someone enlighten me on why it is a law to have a front plate. Isn't that most of the time the cop is behind you when you get pulled over? I guess I don't get it.

Where was she pulled over at. I drive around this area all the time, even with open headers, even being followed by cops, and never been pulled over. That sucks.

I've gotten TWO no front license plate tickets in Dallas County (Richardson and Plano) and wasn't able to get either dismissed. I wasn't able to go to court for either of them due to school here in College Station. I think the MAIN reason for the need for them is because of radar. There's not much for radar to bounce off the front of our cars, with the plate they get a much better chance of catchin you.

No she was pulled over by my house on New Guilbue, sorry for the spelling, she was going through a school zone and had people passing her going faster than 20, but she was the danger because of the plate.

I drive that road almost every day. I live closer to it than you. Thats crazy. Most of the time Ill be going 10 mph over the limit, and the cops will pass me. Ill have to watch out for now on though

Actually the MAIN reason for the front plate is thats what the radar picks up when they clock you coming at them. If a solid black camaro was coming with no plate, they couldnt get a solid read on the car from the front. If they were to pull you over, you can ask to see the radar. If they cant show you one, its easily thrown out of court.

If you show up to court with the license properly mounted they will usually throw it out. I quess not in you case though.

Some of you guys are funny and lost. Radar bounces off the radiator just fine, no plates needed, BUT LIDAR and Laser is
a different story. So I have my plate on the air damn and my Blinder jammer under the bumper between the plate and fog lights.

remove your front bracket and plate... scrape across it really good

if you get pulled over, say you just scraped it on a parking curb and are waiting for the new bracket to come in

Also, check your rear plate frames and make sure they aren't covering any part of your rear license plate that has writing on it (including the "TEXAS" at the top). I took mine off completely.

It sounds like your the one who's lost. Car & Driver did a test several years ago using a C4 Vette, a standard chevy, and a Semi.
The Semi was picked up at almost 2 miles. The Vette not until it was within ~1/4 mile. The radar reflects off the front surfaces, not the radiator, of the car. Things like plates, head lights, and big grills or any flat surface increases the range you can be "seen" at.

In all honesty I would think the radiator would do more harm than good for them. I could see maybe some radar bouncing off of it, but I would think it would suck in more than it would reflect. There's barely anything flat on it, especially the part that's showing (if there's any). Our cars were made with a drag coefficient in mind. Surface area was kept to a minimun (even more so on a vette). The surface of our car is very diagonal, which means there's little space for radar to bounce off. One 12" x 5" license plate is all that's needed to get a hell of a lot better reading for them (not to mention that it's highly reflective metal! )

Also, does anyone know if it's "technically" legal to put your plate on the air dam? I did it once on my old IROC but it was ripped off pretty quickly from the parking lot curbs you pull up to.
