which shop to assemble rear end?

I want to order the moser 12 bolt as I found it considerably cheaper than strange and I know of a few people that have that love it. I don't have the proper tools to assemble it so does anyone know a good shop here in SA that can put it together? thanks
Pedro

If I remember correctly, Chris took his Camaro to Mo Gear to get his 12 bolt assembled/installed. I had them install my gears and he did great work and was the only shop in town (at the time) that warranteed his install.

Well... if you take it to any machine/auto shop and they can't assemble it, then they don't need to be in business All you need is a press and that's it, relatively simple to assemble, just a matter of pressing the bearing and all onto the axle, and sticking the axle into the rear. Just make sure they put the stuff in order

First, buy the Moser without it being set up. Chances are you'll have to do it anyway.

buy it with bearings pressed on. I recommend you get the tapered roller bearings (ala 9") instead of the steel ball.

it will come with the axles NOT in the tubes and the ring/pinion not installed.

take all that crap to MO Gear, Mark owns the place. ask him to install the axles, set up the gears for you.

Install it yourself. I did it in 5 hours on my back by myself in my ****ing apartment complex parking lot with regular sockets/hand tools and a floor jack.

He will probably charge you around 250 to do that, I think. Call and ask him, tell him Chris mentioned him to you. I was the guy with the white Z28 with the jacked up Moser 12 bolt he tried to fix for me...

MAKE SURE THE AXLES AREN'T TOO LONG, THEY SHOULD NOT HIT THE CENTER PIN IN THE SLIGHTEST WAY.

you don't need 33x spline either, just get 30, IMHO
get the differential cover, chrome one looks like ***
buy a rear sway bar mount kit from BMR or Spohn.

hope that helps.

Or see if Ryan at Gunn can do it. I still have my Moser sitting there. I'm waiting on the u-joint.

Does anybody know of a place or person in the Houston area that can install gears and posi in an Impala? Also, I've been thinking of switching from 3:42 to 3:73. I would like to just install an Eaton posi and leave the 3:42 but don't know if they will be able to set them right, being as the teeth could be worn 1yr. old. What do you'll think. If someone has a person or place that can do the work in Houston please email me at Marmendariz@suncoast-pt.com.

Thanks,

I can set it up for $200. I have a shop where I specialize in rear-end rebuilds and gear installs, and have plenty of experience
Also, it's not true that you just need a press. You also have to have a dial indicator set, micrometer, an extremely accurate (beam-type) in-lb torque wrench, race drivers, bearing installers, and a pinion depth guage set.

foRGOT aBOUT you Jason, sorry

Yes, PPII is good and has experience. You do need the additional tools to set up the ring/pinion too.

He's a good dude, I've met up with him in Dallas.

Chris

Jason, you do some 3.73 for me when I'm up there in August? Your sill in DFW right? I've got an Auburn diffy...I can bring ring/pinion, etc. Install kit different for Auburn or same as Torsen?

Chris
Yup I've got my own shop in Fort Worth now.
Here are the prices:
Install labor: $175
Motive 373 gears: $175
Install kit: $25
So 375 total, or if you have your own gears, it's $200.

Thanks Chris!

for those with the moser 12 bolt, does anyone have an aftermarket torque arm? I am looking into getting the BMR one but I've read that you have to modify it a bit to make it fit. What about the extreme torque BMR makes? thanks.
