Post Out of state speeding tickets

i got nailed today for 97 in a 70 in oklahoma. i thought i heard i can just pay it and it won't show up on my driving record since they only check in state. i could get a lawyer or maybe take defensive driving, but i'd like to save that if possible and don't want to miss any work for an out of town court date. any ideas?

Justin, Take the defensive driving route so it stays off your record. All but 4 states (not sure which 4) share driving record info. I had my TX license suspended recently because of a 12!!! year old ticket in Arizona which I thought I had taken care of. Long story short, got it dropped (judge in Arizona jokingly said the cop who issued the citation was probably dead by now). But it was a long process because the Arizona people were not in ANY hurry. While the OK ticket may not show on your driving record in TX, if it were me I wouldn't take any chances; the cost in time and $$$ is too much. You may also want to check w/ a TX lawyer. Hope this helps!

Non-Resident Violator Compact. take care of it or you will be suspended until you do.

I'd get a lawyer and have them take care of it. It might cost you some $$$$ but 20 over in OK is reckless and the judge isn't going to be nice about it. Trust me...I know(don't ask). Good luck!

the ticket is only $245, and i'm too busy at work to take any time off to make a court date. i was almost sure it won't show up on my record. have to do a little more research i guess.

You may want to take the advice of the sober responses!! :-) See if you can take defensive driving or anything like it so the risk of it showing on your record is nil. The way we are becoming so Orwellian, better safe than sorry. Just my $.02!!!

See thats where your wrong first of all. It is from the time the ticket is processed by DPS that the 3 years starts, 2nd waiting that long results in more fines and warrants, so that if he ever got stopped even for a light out he would have a free ride to jail and his car impounded unless he had someone who could pick it up.

Eddie do you just try and get people in trouble, or are you just really ignorant?

When I moved here from Michigan I got two speeding tickets in Arkansas, one for 85 in a 65 and another for 80 in a 65(same night). I then applied for a Texas license. That was 7 years ago. I have been pulled over several times by state troopers and they run my license, and its clear, with no warrants. But then again I don't bother taking any road trips that involve Arkansas.
Ask a lawyer at the very least. Peace.

i think you guys are getting the wrong idea. i only want to hide this from my insurance company so they don't jack up my rates. i don't mind paying fines and sure as hell don't need any warrants out for me.

lol ok you think what you want. you probably pay every ticket you have ever received. or even better had a lawyer do it.

I have been citied for over 50 tickets and you know how many tickets i have on my record 2...and those just appeared last year and they were from 1998 so they do nothing to my insurance.

think what you want call me ignorant but dont be closed minded some people acually know more then you.

Eddie
why do i even care anymore

well drive up ask the judge for DD if he dosnt grant ask for DA if he dosnt grant that. fight it, because your going to pay for it anyhow so you might as well have fun,
most of the time they will settle right before trial starts

but this is all if you have the time. I for one dont give 1 rats *** about tickets outside the city i live much less the state.

but we are all dif I may just be lucky.

If the insurance hike is all that you're worried about, then pay the ticket. My sister got a ticket and the cop told her right there on the scene, "If I'm informed that you paid the ticket before (XX/XX/01) I won't file the info for the insurance company.

As for eddie, as crazy as it sounds, he probably IS right, and probably has had 50 citations. You don't have to go through life being a "legal eagle" and abiding by every little city mandate. I've bent the rules and broken the law in the past myself and have "got away" with it, simply by ignoring the problem.

If it was in San Antonio, I'd pay it. If it was out of state, I would even bother. (unless you go through there frequently)

My sister got ANOTHER ticket in Live Oak ad didn't pay it (yet) so when she went through there, she was extra careful. If its in another STATE, come on. Live life on the edge a bit.
